That's about the amount of sympathy I'd expect from another fellow Urq owner. :D

Well I can't quickly find my previous post, but my old Audi ownership can be summed up something like this...

:D ... :curses: ... :frustrated: ... :barf: ... :? ... :D ... ... :x ... :wtf: ... :o ... :-) ...

Some may even call it a vicious cycle, but the key is to stay on the positive side of the graph when averaged over time.

I can't really say I'm on the positive side now, but it sure looks fun over there!

Keep at it John, you'll get her all sorted soon. I mean it's gotta pay someone back for all those years of neglect rotting away in the field all alone. And who else can she punish at this point. Attention is attention, good or bad. Ask your kids or your pets.

Chris, I'm thinking that until you can drive your car without the 5ton floor jack in the trunk you probably aren't on the positive side. :D Yea guys you heard right. At the Vegas GTG, while driving the Valley of Fire, at one of the pullover photo shoot opportunities we look over and there is Chris pulling out his tools and, I kid you not, a 5ton floor jack. You gotta love it.

Thanks for the boost. After the last couple of days I needed it.

 too funny...and in my defense it was only a 3 ton jack! And it sure came in handy! I just could have used some nitrile gloves and an ice cold one as I was a bit overheated after that.

I sure as heck am not going to spend ANY time under the car while using the widowmaker...then you would have seen jackstands, too!

You better get it done. The problem is that they never end as far as things to do!! I must say, however, that getting it running helps boost a guy to do the little things.

greasemonkey wrote:sound really nice. is this just the cac end? or is the rest also pimped?
and CAC isn't Belgian its from Luxembourg (between Belgium, France and germany)

Yea, this is just the stock center section that has been straight piped through the resonator with the CAC end piece. The Cat is still in place though. I thought about straight piping through the cat also, but it sounds pretty decent as it is and I still have to get it smogged. So CAC is made in Luxembourg....good to know.

84urq20v wrote:Nice John! Sounds good, too. AHHH to think it was just a popped hose - should have known. Duh.

I checked when I was at the parking lot, but couldn't see it tucked way down between the alternator, intercooler, and turbo. They really stuffed a bunch of crap into a small area in these cars. You are right though to think that I missed taking it for a popped hose.

pitts wrote:If I recall correctly my 87 5000s owners manual said the light was to remind the owner to take it to be checked by a Audi tech to make sure the car was operating normally... my mechanic said it was so they could have steady revenue in their service garages...

That is what I think also.....a way to get a service call. On a good note I reset it yesterday and I not longer have an o2 light on. I think that is the easiest emissions light that I have ever fixed. I like it!!

Actually I was kicking myself - not you - for not figuring it was a vac leak. So few things keep these cars from just running. Lots of things keep them from running _optimally_ but it's hard to really kill them....IMO.

So what you are saying then is that until you are on the "positive side" you will either have a 3ton floor jack that looks like a 5ton, or a couple of jack stands in the trunk. :D I can understand all of that, but it doesn't leave much room for a cooler to have a cold one ready. With all that in mind, again it begs the question of WHY DO WE PLAY WITH THESE OLD AUDIS? :?

All you had to do is ask silly, I don't carry a floor jack, but I always have a box of rubber gloves in the back. I hate getting wax on my hands... :thanks:

And to boot, I can't pull mine out of the garage to take pics of the rear bumper, there are some rain clouds above ;o)

Stay on top of it John, there will be some teething pains of course. When I bought my blue car I drove it home from Colorado in the rain for 500 of the 700 miles. The very next day I washed it and blew second gear.

Yeah, I think 150hp is perfect.

If this makes you feel any better John...or to add to the why we mess with old(ish) Audi's: Last Tuesday after work and after spending 6-7 hours chasing mystery oil leaks and misfiring #5 coil on a cursed VR6 in a cursed lago blue coup I drove home around midnight in the S6 to just make it to the the pitch black two lane section at the top of Provo canyon going around the lake when the drivers front tire blew out. So I am inching along watching for headlights and a level place to pull over wishing I had a 3 ton floor Jack that looks like a 5 ton in the trunk and just then I get the dreaded low water warning light that I promptly ignore till I see the steam and notice the temp is climbing. Tire must have taken out a hose right? No, as it turns out the water pump thought that was a great time to fully blow. No cell service (Why was it I wanted to live in the mountains again?) so the next three hours was spent driving a little then letting it cool down while I made a dark decent to the lake with a jug to fill with fresh cold mountain water and repeat. I made it to Heber parked and woke my wife at 3 am to drive 20 miles and pick me up The S6 is awaiting a timing belt, water pump and a new set of snows (it is about to snow as I write). The Vr6 refuses to fire the number five coil and will need a new head, I mean a different new head (Darin wipe that smile off your face). I would blame this on you for starting all this Audi nonsense but... umm.... I guess I kind of started it..

LOL, David for sure gets the "audi night" of the month award. I dont know if you remember the area he is talking about there in the canyon, but it is one of the few places without cell service, and that is bcause it is next to the dam where the canyon narrows to steep walls. To climb down to the lake in pitch black overcast weather to get water for an overheated car at 1 am in the morning... That sucks. Those walls are VERY steep, and it is an even quarter mile hike....six or seven times.

Ok Ok David, I feel much better now that I know it isn't just me. What, the water pump didn't freeze up and take out the belt AND valves, but just quit pumping? What a bummer!! Did the tire tear up any fender? I'm also thinking low profile on the floorjack in the trunk to still make room for a spare. :D

Aaron, Mark....150hp for a bike, or per cylinder is more to my liking. I could certainly get by with the 125hp that my DD bike has and 100hp per hole that I'm shooting for on the stroker. On a good note talking about the 165hp.....the TT has felt really fast the past few days!!!

Fender is good. To be honest I am always feeling lucky when the water pump goes before and not along with the the timing belt. Pump was pumping 1/3 through the motor and 2/3 outside. In defense of Audi I should note that I had noticed I was losing a little water but I was waiting for a vacancy at the Lab to figure it out. Likewise I knew the tires were sketchy; just trying to stretch another month out of them so I could mount snows on the stock wheels. Earlier I was going to put a set of summer tires on some A8 wheels that someone stole out from under me... :)

  Too late to the both of you. I just got a text from Renee "the tires are so much better"!! I asked if she even notice the wheels or did she realize once she was driving? The next text was "while I was driving". The point being is that I probably could have put new tires on steel rims and she wouldn't have notice that her nice S-line A4 looked different.

Oh and no I'm not turning loose of the 18's just yet either.........even for the family.

guess you knew exactly where I was going next :) You know there may be a new set of 245/40/18's in the family if you get tired of the almost S-line set up

  Whitewalls!! Now thats funny, but she wouldn't have noticed them either, but the sidewalls are pretty high. (Think A8 high)

We need to quit hanging out Sean. You are starting to read my mind. If I had some spacers to negate some of the 43mm offset I would have already done a test run on Her Urq. Seems fitting to have her wheels on Her Urq even if just for a test fit. :D

No I didn't know. Please tell.

I wanted to go to 17s not for looks, but for the great selection of tires at half the price of the 18s. With $1200 worth of low profile tires that are cupped so bad at ~22k miles that you can't stand to drive them I wanted something different and cheaper. It's not like Renee cares if her tires are rated for 150mph or are a soft compound low profile tire. She is more concerned about reliability and ride and then looks. I have to say the big balloon tires sure softened up the ride which with the S-line suspension is pretty stiff. All that said, Aurelie was telling me last night about how much Mom loves her car and that she was really talking it up while down at the Newport girls GTG. Aurelie said that other than the loud tires she never heard a bad word said about the car. The only thing she tells me is that it needs the LED eyebrows, which she loves. Go figure?? Makes me wonder how she ever noticed the new cars with those headlights.

Michael picked up some used18" wheels with new rubber as a street set up for the coup. But they are only 7.5 wide and look like they will be to tall.

Well atleast they are being used. I figured they would sit on the back patio for a couple of years collecting dust while I was swapping snows, r-comps, and then summer tires onto my a8 wheels.

She does like her a4. I think after 15 years of trying, we finally have a convert. Good luck buying that b8 :)
