Thanks Sean....I'll look at it tonight. Is it any wonder the A/C fuse in the glove compartment was melted? LOL Do you know if the heater core can come out of the box sideways without taking the whole shebang out of the car? I know that I will have to take the evap out just to get to the heater hoses, so either way the A/C evap has to come out. I would like to clean the core and ducting real good to try to get rid of as much smell as possible.

I thought about calling Josh, but he acted like him and his brother were planning on a best parts 20vt car and a runner with what was left over. I'll talk to him. I've been meaning to get ahold of him anyhow and go see all his new treasure.

Sean (foxbat) how is your Urq coming along? I about came over to the house last weekend, but I got called into work. Any progress? I think that you need to get running for Spring Mountain so that there will be another 165hp Urq there besides me. :-) That's assuming I get back together and running by then.

No, I haven't started a project thread yet. I guess I should. As a newbie I didn't figure I had much to offer the likes of the Iroz clan.

Most of what I end up replacing on this car are small plastic and rubber pieces. This car sat out in the NM sun/ desert for quite a few years.

I have to say I did start laughing when I first pulled the heater/AC box off and looked at that mess. I'm still up in the air as to how I'm going to attack the fix. I know that I want a car that blows fresh air and to do that I think that a complete teardown and cleaning is in order.

Judging from your sig I'd have to say you aren't a newbie to Audis. Your sig looks very similar to mine what with an 06 2.0t A4 for the wife, an 01 1.8t car for your DD, and an 83 Urq. You are already feeling like part of the family......always wanted some more hot southwest audi owner input, especially if you own an Urq. Does your Urq still have AC in it? Is it a runner? Pictures?

If you want to talk about mice problem we have had our share. I had baby mice squeeking at me whenever I turned the fan on, I think they were getting a nice ride in the fan.

Mike and I have had to battle mice issues on more than one occasion. The worse is when they die in the car, the smell afterwards stays almost forever. There is a Wurth cleaning product that uses enzymes to kill the smell, but I hear even that wares out after a while and re-application is needed.

To store cars we have come up with the following.
Raise the car as high as you can oof the grouns, take wheels off, place jackstands in shallow drain buckets filled with used oil (that will stop them from climbing up). They just make sure there is nothing overhead they can jump onto the car from. This is the best we have come up with so far. Still perfecting the formula

Martin, since you guys up in Canada have it mostly figured out, maybe to solve our problems below the border we could just ship all mice, rats, and similar rodents up to you guys. :wink: I worry that if a squirrel cage seems like something good to eat that a wiring harness would seem like dessert. It's not like Urqs don't have enough electrical problems all by themselves. :(

The most revolting thing I've seen was when I thought I'll be smart and put couple of mouse traps in the car. Left it for a week or so and went back to check.. well, there was a mouse cought in the trap, and another one snacking on IT. I almost :barf:

From now on no mouse traps, mothballs do not work either :(

The AC parts are all still in place and I am not sure about their future. The car is running.... project thread to follow, but not on the road at this point.

lots and lots of mothballs, small rodents cannot stand naphthalene and that is what mothballs are. take socks and fill them with mothballs and stick them everywhere, if we are talking about long long storage you will have to eventually put more of them in.

Take the original dash to a Line-X truck bed spray on protective liners retailer, and have them shoot it with chocolate brown! They do custom colors to order, you will need to ruff up, and degrease the dash before they shoot it. Once the dash has been Line-X'ed you will never ever have a problem with the dash cracking again I can assure you.

Well I'm driving it, I got the driver's window repaired, and most important is that it is actually legal to drive. As far as the wife is concerned with her half of the pair, it is parked in the driveway where she parks each time coming home and she has yet to notice the plate. LOL I think that it might mean she really isn't all that interested in Her Urq. Go figure. I'm not quite sure why, but I'm thinking it's possibly because of the lack of power from the 20vt. I'm sure she will love it a lot more when it has a 300-400hp 20vt in it. :wink:


Hey Twin, is the spraying the dash with a bed liner something that you have first hand experience with. Seems like it would actually work, especially if they can adjust texture like you would do with a drywall texture gun.
