Can't blame you, kids gravitated to it, the camera just clicked on it's own and before you knew it, we were all drooling.

That CLS is beautiful! Why are there no pin-stripes on the ur-q, has it just been painted?

I have not found anyone brave enough to install them... I am useless when it comes to such patience requiring tasks...
Might go and see local detail shop and ask how much they will charge to do something like that.
The straight bits are probably easy enough, but the valance wrap around on top is a bit of a challange.

Martin, if I can do it anyone can. It's really easy and surprisingly quick to do. When I get home I'll send you some photos so you can be the judge. I found that with the cars lines and bulges, it really goes well. The hardest part is the upper single stripe that goes around the bumper surrounds, and even they aren't so hard. Deciding what you want to do with the all too common warps (or quivering lip as I call it) is the hardest. I am lucky as to only have on mild one on the front, with a laser straight rear. When I bought the striping materials, they sold me so much that I could make several mistakes and have plenty left over to redo it. I think the materials only cost about $40-$50 U.S.D.

I also appriciate what those "guys" are doing, it doesn't float my boat in the slightest, but if they are happy that's all that matters to them.

This show was more "normal" and I got to see some more classic air cooled stuff (cars and vans) as well as few Porsches and even couple of cool BMWs, like this turbocharged 3.0 CSL, bloody beautiful!

Couple of existing pics which may show something. I'll try to get close ups for you. The stuff I used was 3M Scotchcal Striping Tape. All you need to remember is stick the one end then lay the whole line at once, one panel section at a time. If you try to lay down gradually, or every few inches it will be wavy. I am right handed and tack down the left end then just aim for the right end, keeping the tape tought and lay it down. If you make a mistake, you can pick it up as long as you haven't pressed down yet, and start over. I go over it with a micro-fiber rag, pull the clear protective tape of, and then press it down again, with the microfiber rag. I looked at many photos, and this is pretty darn close to factory appearance. What have you really got to loose other than a few hours and some beer money?

Thanks Martin. They are bullit mirrors. By real though, I did not research the specific manufacturer that supplied the competition cars, but I found some that look very close to me. It was a super simple mod, that can be reversed quite quickly to stock. I like the lean look of the car with them on, but, they are much less practical than the origionals and take some getting used to. That's one rule I've made with myself; everything I've changed on the car could be easily changed back standard.

Just a revival of the thread, drove the car home on Sunday! Just a joy to be in.

And in the next few weeks is the list of things to do.

- 3" exhust curtesy of Tartan Motorsports
- 7A cams
- Roll bead all of the alloy intake piping incl intercooler
- Blow off valve install
- Hook up PCV system
- Correct a small coolant leak
- stripe kit installed.

Then I'll be able to visit dynodoc aka Brady and have this car finally tuned to it's potential and ready for Carlisle.. ;)

On Thursday I met up with Shannon's previous owner, he had a bit of a surprise for me.
He found some old pics from when the car was getting restored at Marks Motors in Ottawa.

Here are few of the shots.

I was very happy to get these, thank you Kirk!

Today she was getting her pin stripes installed, I chickened out and had a local detail shop install them... we'll see tomorrow how it turned out.

Stripe kit is off the list.. looks much much better, I'll take some pics once the weather allows it.

Next week I'll be taking the intake piping apart and install the blowoff valve.
While I have the intercooler out I'll also install the 7A cams.. hope they'll be worth the effort.

Cheers
