Productive evening last night, the Tartan Motorsport 3" exhaust is on!

Out with the old, in with the new.

And a video of our fruits, excuse the darkness, but it was after 10:00pm

Keep in mind car is not tuned yet, that's scheduled for Apr 28th at Dyno Doc in Montreal (Brady's shop).

The exhaust sound is perfect, exactly what I was going for... I opted for the short box to let the engine sing louder.
Fit cant' be better, the stock exhaust is closer to touching in few places than this one, Craig spent countless hours tweaking the jigs, changing bend angles and it shows. Given the time he spent in prep work this is probably the most expensive exhaust ever.. but at least now I believe he has a solution that looks stock, fits perfect and is 3" SS. Can't ask for anything else.
Thank you Mr Cook!

Forgot to mention that seat of the pants feel the engine feels happier to rev and turbo spools up noticebly quicker.

Sounds great. That's pretty much the setup that I have on the eS2, except I am running a cat. Yours sounds a bit more loud than mine.

Is Mr. Cook making kits? :)

If so, Mr. Cook, care to share? Looking for options for the 4000 (which now has the same exit as the UrQ).

Sounds awesome!

Aha, a meeting of the Canadian branch of the red '84 ur-quattro owners club 8)

I have a similar system, Craig built with the bigger muffler. I love the sound and
looks. Just need to get the bl**dy car back on the road.... Maybe the hole in the
4k rad will accelerate that process....

Looking forward to seeing what power Martin's car is putting down once it has been
to Brady's for a tune :D

Another productive evening, took out all of the piping and intercooler to have the ends rolled.
Also pulled out the AAN cams and hope to have the 7A cams in this evening.
Question though, for all the guys with GT3071 and 7A cams and adjustable cam gear.
After tuning, did you find better results with timing at stock or is there a setting I shoudl try to use.
Reason I ask is that my IC is so close to the cover, if I install the cover I might not be able to get it out without taking the IC out again.. PITA.

Any advise will be appriciated.

Thank you!

Martin, I would recommend zero timing on a 3071r. On bigger turbos, where you can utilize the delayed cam opening for more flow, retarding up to 4 degrees can be great, but the 3071r runs out of breath at around 6500 as it is. Making a better flowing head will only make it run out of air sooner, and shorten the powerband. HTH

That exhaust sounds great. FYI, if you get rid of the OEM PS pump, you get rid of that atrocious whine from the front side of the engine. I moved to a later pump for my Serp. belt setup, and it's wonderfully gone. I just got my customers mars UR up and running on the 3B and used the old style pump, back to the whinin' :(

good work!

Looks and sounds great Martin, nice work from you and Craig.

I had the lhasa 84 with RR out for its first public appearance at the CO monthly dinner gathering last night. It's still a work in progress, but it runs great and I'm happy to be back driving an urq.

Another productive day.

Installed the 7A cams, however, there is a bit of an issue. I remember having to do the same with AAN cams when I initially put the motor together, but now I think I might as well ask... with crank at 0 (through the tranny inspection hole) and cam adjustable gear set at 0 I get this.

Image

Half a toothe off... the cams are aligned WRT each other, and thanks to the adjustable gear I can bring them back to 0.. but should I have to?
Anyone else experience this?

Anyhoo.. pressing on. Thanks to Marcel and his nifty bead roller I got all of my piping rolled today (sorry to see your enigne problems).
Also drilled the hole for the blow off valve and the flange is ready for some tig time.

Image

Also took the opportunity to paint the IC black.. it was just way too shiny.. ;)

Image

Also pulled out my old black cam cover (a bit rough) but it will do for now while I paint the otherone black as well.

Image

Hope to have her back together in no time.

Another productive weekend...

Managed to put the car back together, just in time, we are supposed to get some nasty weather tomorrow and Tuesday (including some snow!!).
Anyhoo.. all is well, car is back to functioning.
Small list of things still to be done before next weekend.

- Hook up the vacuum to the blow off valve (5 min).
- Wire up clutch switcha nd relay for launch control (not that important).
- Hope to get the rear bumper in as well (only if time allows).

Here is what she looks like now with the Euro front bumper!

The trunk latch is also bent and pushed in a bit... especially the sheetmetal under it.. not sure how I'll pull that out.
I'll just go into a orner and cry myself to sleep!

On a good note, Craig's muffler survived!
