+1 on the avatars, but I'm sure the mods are all over it because this place rules.

One thing that came to mind is the vendor neutral stance of this lovely forum... where does the money come from for hosting? Is it purely an out of pocket expense, or is it going to somehow become revenue neutral/positive via sales, referrals, etc?

Only asking, not to be nosy, but, because if it's 100% out of pocket expenses for time to moderate/hosting expenses then perhaps we can set up a voluntary PayPal donation to keep up the hosting? I for one would be willing to contribute some cash for a vendor neutral resource where I can find amazing info and referrals without fear of Host reprisal... :hide:

I know other forums (pirate4x4, colorado4x4) which have similar programs set up giving contributors an icon next to their username and perhaps a private forum or other benefits (custom username subtitles etc).

I do like that kind of idea as well. I'd imagine the featured shops are sharing the expense in some way or another, but that is purely speculation.

the forum is on my servers, but I dont want your money.

I want your responses and your knowledge on build threads. How other forums started, and how this one is going to stay.

:metoo: Exactly what Marc said. I originally hosted the site on my server but we decided to move it to his to have something a bit more stable. I am willing to eat some costs to keep the site running, and I know Marc and Hank feel the same way. Regardless of where it is hosted or who is paying for it, it will always be free to the community. All you need to contribute is content!

Sorry, not willing to allow users to play with the formatting like that. That could get messy.

Any way that you could add a preview text box for when you pause the cursor on the thread title? I really like that feature on Audizine so if you read something in the first paragraph that's uninteresting you don't have to load and then back out of the thread.

I like that too, especially when I'm in Saudi where every click saved counts.

Not sure if this is my browser or privacy settings or such, but I've read the big 'welcome' message from Hank and it's still in a banner on every PP page I load. Just sayin'

This may have been asked before but if you could add "View new posts" and/or "View unread posts" at the bottom of each page next to "Board Index", "Subscribe Topic", "Bookmark Topic" that would save some clicks. And add a view first unread in the preferences menu (if there is one) or add it somewhere in title as a clickable option to avoid having to select it after you open the thread. Ask me if I'm not making sense, I need more sleep.

Thanks Ed!

I just changed it to automatically go to the first unread when you click the topic link.

FYI It was a clickable option before, you need to click on the little orange icon to the left of the thread.

How about we get the classifieds and maybe the off topic out of the "new threads" thing?

He means to filter those subforums from being included in the 'new threads' list. Keeps the 'noise' down for people wanting to bypass non-technical content on the main page. It's been discussed on MG, but never really came to fruition. The thought is if you want to buy or sell or engage in random banter, you will just navigate directly to those areas.

It's a little different here since there isn't a landing page with latest posts (yet?), but same idea nevertheless.
