thought about that but IDK. If I could find a decent set of race seats with heaters, I'd do it. I got the CC working yesterday but today it was doing its usual stupid shenanagans. I'll activate it and it won't hold it worth a damn. It'll slowly slow down. Sometimes it'll just work right. IDK

Im really thinking I want a late model 90 quattro as my next project. Fully loaded, leather, power everything, etc. All I would want to do with it is a 3B swap and leave everything else factory. Maybe lower it but that would be it with a possible exception of a 5-lug swap. If anyone knows of one for cheap with a blown engine or w/e but awesome shape interior, let me know. Not looking to repeat the balls to the wall 4000 rebuild lol.

If your looking for a nice "simple" DD, I'd look into a urS4 or S6. It already has a nice engine and you could focus on bolt on upgrades to get more power vs a engine swap, plus you can't beat all the creature comforts on those...... Plus there ain't enough room for two kick ass late model 90Q in North Idaho. :-P

The problem I see is most people selling them want an arm, leg, and first born for them.

I would totally take a 100 Avant, then throw an AAN in it, like that one that was in the for sale section recently.

Hmmmmm. Maybe Ill hold off on the Heated seats and finally install the headers for the pickup. Now with bigger injectors, I can probably advance timing up to 34 degrees :)

Or you can just install heated seats so the ladies will enjoy riding in the 4k. :P Come to think of it, I need to get a yak-rack set up for the A6 ... hmmmm... I think that's going to be the next thing I pick up for it.

Re: Taco's 4KTQ 20vt Swap: Project Red Baron - Lifters?

Post by AngryTaco »

Alright guys. I'm tired of these damn noisy lifters. They are setting off the knock sensor and retarding my timing. They are annoying as hell too. Should I shell out the $140 for lightweight or just spend $100 on OEM? Thing doesnt go past 6500, nor do I plan to take it any higher.

Yeah. The constant clackitty clack clack is confusing the knock sensor. There are no signs or feels that point to knock or pinging, yet the knock sensor likes to go off randomly even when not in boost

Starving student = stock lifters. And I highly doubt you would notice any difference at all.

Spend the extra 40 bucks on some long underwear and a Home Depot manual boost controller. :P
