Needs more 5 lug
Re: Dan's 40V V8 4000 Back from tahoe...exhaust fixed
Thought about doin the five lug but with the money I have invested already in just the wheels and tires I'm going to atleast drive the tires till they are bald before I even consider going 5 lug. There really isnt a cheap and easy way to change the front to five lug and still retain my 2 peice front struts which kinda sucks. I also like the wheels that I have. Maybe someday, but not anytime soon.

Can't you either run a B5 rear hub in the front or a urs hub with the lip machined off? It depends on which front knuckle you are running, but those seem to be the most common solutions to 5 lug swaps with 2 piece struts.
Re: Dan's 40V V8 4000 Back from tahoe...exhaust fixed
IDK about that. Do you know of someone on here that has used the b5 rear hubs? I think the URS hubs have the wrong size bearing. I have the small bearing B3 80 20v fwd front knuckles.

While you are on here Jim, what hubs are you running in the front of the vomit comet? and you have two peice struts, right?

I can confirm that on my b3 20v that b5 rear hubs fit all the way around the car. I have test fitted them to the axles and the wheel bearing part numbers are the same. The only thing that I cannot confirm yet is the hub spacing since I have yet to press them together.

S2 hubs won't work on the small wheel bearing knuckles

Thanks Jim, You must have the larger bearings.
rs4tech, I think derek grabbed a set once a long time ago and tried em and the spacing was way wrong. Maybe even more wrong than the 5000tq hubs that he ended up using on his 20vt 4kq and spacing them out 6 or 8 mm. Either way, i have my car setup pretty well for now so i'm not even gonna put much thought into a 5 lug swap. I'd rather turbo it first.

I'll let u know how those hubs work in my car once I start my suspension mods. I didn't think you could use 5k hubs in our strife because of the different wheel bearing design. Ours have a stepped design and the 5k is straight.

Well, Derek used em in his with the 75mm bearings just like what I have and you should have the same bearings. He has his whole 5 lug swap recipe laid out on page 5 of his thread. They are specifiacally 5KTQ hubs.

Re: Dan's 40V V8 4000 Exhaust fixed...AGAIN!!!
Just a quick update here. Exhasut broke again about a month ago and so the car sat because i didnt have a whole lot of time to mess with it plus it was hot here for a while so after spending all day in 100 degree weather coming home and laying on the garage floor in the same weather wasnt on the top of my priority list. Couple that with leather interior and no AC and just the thought of driving the car lately wasnt a very happy one.
So, last week i finally got around to jacking the car up and having a looksy. This time the 3" vband flange had been ripped off of the 3" aluminum pipe right where it attaches to the flex pipe. I'm pretty sure I figured out what the cause is...ever since i put in the car chemistry exhaust insert there was a gap of almost .5 inches between the vband flages when installing the exhaust. The insert has caused to flex pipe to be scrunched up. I would just pull the exhaust forward as far as i could get it and then use the vband to suck the flex pipe to the exhaust. The way that the rear exhasut hanger is set up doesnt allow the exhaust to move forward so this would cause a lot of stress and the weakest link has failed twice now.
I was able to salvage the flange but the end of the pipe was toast so i held the flange on the pipe approximately where is used to be a measured form a mark i made to get a baseline measurement. Then i cut off the damaged end of the pipe, took the leftover 3" pipe that i had from the build and hammered that into the flange, then held it up to the exhaust and measured it out to where is was about 5/8" longet than before and marked and cut off the extra. I took that to the local welder and had it all welded up and now it fits perfect just like it used to. Hopefully this wont happen again.
Today i got a call from Selmir79 sayin he was in the area and asked if i'd like to go for a drive. Ofcourse i said yes. We met up and since he had just come through the canyon we took another road north of here that I had driven just the other day to a customers house to change a radio that had been mistakenly installed in their car. It was fun getting chased by his nicely modded B6 S4. Then, without fail, my car decided to have another problem while we were driving back. I started hearing a pulsing noise form the right rear. Sounded like a really bad wheel bearing. We stopped for lunch, and then i led him back to the freeway and we parted ways. When i got home i jacked up the rear anticipating a bad bearing only to find the the wheel was loose. Luckily, nothing was damaged and I just put it back together and torqued it down and checked the other wheels(none were loose). I have some pics of the exhaust but need to upload em. I'll do that tomorrow, bed time now.

Dan it was really fun drive and I am glad your wheel did not come off while driving 100 thru those windy roads
My rear left had 2 loose nuts as well and next time will be checked before going too crazy!Re: Dan's 40V V8 4000 Exhaust fixed...AGAIN!!!
Dude, Dan that's just a sign that it's time to go 5 lug.
Sounds like you had a good time regardless of lug bolt issues!

Ringbearer, me too! LOL.
Selmir, we need to do that again. I'm gonna try to scout out some other good roads for the next drive. I know JT4K wants to come down for a drive so i need to find some good roads to hit to make it worth his while.
Ben, My first thought was that i was gonna have to go five lug if my wheel was damaged because i dont think i could find a replacement for it. What saved me was the long wheel studs, they were the longest i could find. More threads = takes longer for the lug nuts to fall off. Long studs FTW!
