Loxxrider's 200 20v Revver: See you on "The Project Pad"
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
I just drove the car for like 20 minutes with no problems. It was the shift cut. I had to disable it. It wasn't hooked up to anything so I dont know what was causing it to activate, but that was definitely it!

Ok so here is the summary of what happened...
The car is now running beautifully on the standalone. It still doesn't have a proper tune, but it finally has all of the bugs sorted out.
The major problem we had with the hesitations turned out to be from the shift cut. When an output isn't hooked up, it needs to be disabled i the config or else it will pick up interference. So basically every time that hiccup was happening it was because the shift cut would make duty cycle and pulse width go to zero effectively shutting off the injectors for a fraction of a second.
I did a little tweaking with the boost control and now it holds 15 psi very nicely.
The current tune is VERY conservative until I get my friend to work his genius on it, but it still feels HUGELY strong in first gear...even at only 15psi and close to 10:1 AFR.
This car and SEM rocks my sox
BTW, I'll put a vid up soon.

Haha yes, I am in fortran, and its very dumb. We use fortran 95 haha. They offer C++, but it was full. GREAT.
But yes, I am not VERY satisfied with the unit. The only reason I had so many problems was because of configuration issues. Nothing was the unit's fault.
and yes, let the fun begin. Its great right now. Of course it still doesnt have a perfect tune, but its fun working out the little problems along the way.

So I went to change the oil today after giving her a nice wax job, and for one thing, I couldn't get the damn bolt out of the oil pan. I didn't change the oil last time because I had no place to do it up at school so I let the local VW guy do it. I trust him, but dammmn man it seems like he put the damn thing on with an air gun.
Tomorrow I need to get to a shop with a gun just to give it a short blast and get it loose. I mean I went at it with my 1/2 inch ratchet and I'm far from a biotch.
Anyway, when I was trying to get the thing off, I noticed how much the motor was moving. I am talking a really large amount lol. I noticed that the mount where the tranny mounts to the (subframe?) is like COMPLETELY shot. There is basically no material in it at all, so it isn't even supporting anything. My snubber is also shot, but I plan on just replacing the two engine mounts to track density and forgoing that one (also for intercooler space). A member here told me once that you don't need the snub when you have them.
My question is, is this the right tranny mount I am thinking of? (it pains me how easily I could make this on the CNC/lathe, but it wouldn't be much more cost effective honestly)
http://www.034motorsport.com/product_in ... cts_id=433
Then my next question is if this next mount serves for both the passenger and driver sides of the main motor mounts?
http://www.034motorsport.com/product_in ... cts_id=434
I have no damn money haha. The only reason I am buying the tranny mount is because I have like $95 credit that amazon.com owes me from selling some of my old textbooks there
Unfortunately, when I was under the car I felt so bad for it because of the amount of wetness underneath...its a mix of oil and steering fluid
First thing I do this summer is going to be fixing or getting the steering rack fixed. Its not too bad of a leak (only 2 cans of green gold in the past 7 or 8 months), but it gets all over EVERYTHING! and makes it really nasty. I'm not sure where the oil is coming from, but its not that big of a deal. Its nothing that ever gets on the ground even. Its probably just from my leaky vc gasket. I have a replacement for that, just waiting to throw in my 7a cams first. I also need to pick up a new t-stat (mine doesn't close all the way). Good thing its only $20 from SJM.
I have an opportunity to get a final tune on the car this weekend, but there is an issue with the MAT sensor that needs to be worked out with the VEMS people. If that doesn't get worked out in time, then it will have to wait until spring break, but thats only 2 weeks away. I made a 250 mile trip home with the car earlier today. Open downpipe and all
As for the future...well its going to be fun once the summer gets rolling. I am hoping for some kind of engineering internship. They can range anywhere from $15 to $30 an hour, so with 3 months to work with, I plan to be able to have enough money to pay for all of my rent for next year and have some left over to play with the Audi.
Bagyard suspenshion, big brakes, and BBS RS's are on my mind at all times
That and throwing a Holset on there. There is also the temptation to use some money for a TIG welding machine. We shall see as the summer progresses I suppose! It should be an exciting one. I also may have a lead on a full-sized mill for a good price. Can you tell I love engineering?

Not sure about the track density mounts being able to delete the snub mount, but I know you can shave it with the motorsport mounts.
Good luck with the oil drain plug, I've been there.

ahh yes I am with you dreaming about summer time work and purchasing parts for the car. I lay in bed and do the same type of budgetting for after next years rent!! While I won't be an egineering intern, I'm hoping to make similar wages on the north slope working for the oil companys.
I shall be paying close attention to this thread especially when the holset shows up on it, I am leaning the same way!

Ah nice to know someone can relate

As always I'll be documenting every step of the way, so definitely let me know if you have any questions. I dont think you can go wrong. For me, the only holdback is really the manifold.
Still waiting to hear if that tranny mount is the correct one. Maybe I'll give 034 a call. There are two of them correct? They look a little different from one side to another.

speeding-g60 wrote:so. you do not need to run a snub mount with the motorsport/solid mounts?
I have the 034 motorsport mounts and was able to run without the snub. I was nervous but the folks at 034 said it wouldn't be a problem and they were right.
I've even done a tranny swap with motor in place and it was fine without the snub.
I'd imagine with solid mounts you have plenty of support, but then again you are building a crazier animal.

So I pulled a few things apart today for fun. The net result was basically just a little cleaning up of the bay.
The reason I started pulling stuff out was because I have an oil leak from somewhere...not sure where yet. Its really hard to track down. There is power steering fluid everywhere under the car so its even harder to see where the actual oil is from.
Basically I have two things in mind. For one, there is some oil on the inside of the charge pipes, etc..and it leaks out a bit where the rubber one connects to the metal hard pipe on top of the engine. This might just be where its all coming from. BUT where is THIS oil coming from? I suspect it may be from the catch can venting to the intake. I pulled the turbo inlet off to see if there was any oil in there (indicative of a seal leaking in the turbo), but it looked squeaky clean. That may just be because of all the air that goes through there though.
I suspect there is probably lots of oil in the intercooler considering the residue in the charge pipe. I left the catch can disconnected to see if it is possibly the culprit.
The other option is the valve cover gasket. Its leaking for sure, but I cant tell if thats the main source of the oil I get. That will get replaced soon.
I really need to do the damn rack though. I can get it for $180, but I really dont know if I can do it myself (mostly because I lack a lift). If I had a lift I'd jump right into it. What do you guys think? I know they are a bitch to do. What special tools do you typically need? Anything special?

Damn I might just have to drive around with a leak for a little longer then haha. I would love to put a badarse clutch in now...but I'd hate to put wear on it before I really do need it. I mean I dont plan to have this car making its true potential anytime soon.
On the other hand, I definitely plan to make around 400 to all 4 relatively soon, so that will definitely call for something more substantial. I suppose I could just drop the beast one in. Bah I didn't expect to have to spend so much this summer :tard:

Woooo just found $1000 in a bank account I forgot I had... :bashtard: :slap:
Now I wont feel so bad about fixing some things on the beast
(new tranny mount and thermostat are on the way by the way...and good, used steering rack soon too thanks to derek)
oh and if anyone has a 3"in 3" out muffler laying around they would like to let go for fairly cheap let me know. I'm so ready to have a real exhaust on this car lol.

Hummmmm what do you guys think about these?!

I can get them for a great price. 8.5" fronts...10" rears. I'd match the rotational diameter or whatever. Might take some serious stretch, but these wouldn't be my track wheels of course.
