w00t!

ok so check it out...

here's me with my BBS's, my new Corbeau, and playing Forza. Can life be any awesomer? Too bad I have a test tomorrow and no monies now.

Image

and I made some serious progress on wheel center number one last night. I spent like 2 hours just scrubbing the back of the center of one wheel just to get it looking brand new. It looked like the one on the left...

Image

The centers are coming along nicely, but I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the inside of the barrels. They are just nasty from having weights on them and such. I think I might sand them down and then paint or just sand them down and do a light polish job.

Sooo I went to the local car show put on by students from my school. It was really diverse this year. Some euro's (VRT MKII, turbo M3, etc.), some nice domestics (dually truck with procharger that put down 1028rwhp), nice imports, and even some nice donks. I entered the Audi because the proceeds went to a good cause and I had to duel with my buddy and his turbo M3 to see who's launch control was louder. Thats always a crowd pleaser haha.

Well, the end of the show rolled around and I wasn't really paying much attention to who was winning. Then I got called up!!!! Second place...best european import haha.

Its mainly because I know half of the judges and they know what a badass car/motor it is and they know whats gone into it so far and can appreciate how clean it is. I didn't even wash the damn car or the wheels for that matter as you can see in the pictures. I looked like this :-D

ETA is whenever 034 finishes the manifold!

I'm probably going to finish everything on the hardware end of things except for the injectors. I'm hoping to have the intercooler setup all purchased next month. That would leave only the injectors. So basically I'd be able to run the Holset on little to no boost for a month or two until I can afford the injectors. Then tuning will commence :)

I wasn't so sold on those B6 Avus rims when I first saw them on your car, but I actually really like the look now that I think about it. They sure do grow on ya...

I thought the same thing, but i really like this look!
Have you considered doing a V8 front bumper? Ive seen some guys do it and it looks way sick

Thanks guys, I really do like them too somehow. I may be getting adapters to fit the BBS's. Its really going to be interesting to see how that turns out.

I have definitely considered a V8 bumber. I think it makes the front come together much better. I was going to get one, but the car went to the crusher before I could snatch it :(

I'll do it next time a good one comes along. The bumper is the only thing that makes the front of the car look bad in my opinion.

Ya, I had that same problem when I went to get some struts but the car already went to the crusher!! Ugh...

But honestly I don't think it looks bad at all the way it is, I just think the V8 bumper would make it look even better!

I feel like the car actually looks better with the front bumper off haha. I dunno, something about it just totally ruins the flow of the rest of the car. With it off its a really good canvas for something beautiful. V8 bumper is the only thing thats "readily" available that looks better. There is so much potential if one was willing to go custom however. Maybe someday I'll play around with photoshop to illustrate what I mean. I would want to keep the rubstrip but make the bumper much more pronounced and not inset like the 200 one is. Still clean and OEM looking, just better flowing.

oh, I know...I've been in contact with that guy. The wheels are for sale, but of course I can't afford them. They are 19's actually. They look perfect to me. I'll probably do something like that in the future...maybe if/when I sell the BBS's. I am a huge fan of 5-spoke wheels.

Like I said, the V8 bumper definitely makes it look a lot nicer. I wish my fenders were like that too. I'd love to do some fenders with bigger flares. Maybe V8 ones...maybe custom. That all depends on how much I'm willing to spend and when I'll be able to do that. We'll see. In a perfect world there are a lot of things I'd love to do. In the real world, I'm a college student struggling to pay rent and modify my car at the same time... BUT in the real world I'm also a mechanical engineering student with a very bright future ahead of me as far as career opportunities are concerned, so I have faith! :D

Congrats on the 2nd place. Buy some new hood struts.... :P

I want to do a V8q front fascia on my car as well. More body work than that and it really makes no sense though. You would be money ahead to buy a nice v8 and drop all your parts into it.

True that, if I went custom, it would be more aggressive than V8 flares, etc. though.

And my hood struts are just fine. I was trying to be cool like everyone else and use something "bling" to prob it up :bashtard:

I'm dealing with a misfire again. I really dont know why this point. Here is the long version of the story:

I've been having Kevin help me do some tweaking on the map lately and I haven't run the car hard for a long time because of a really bad misfire. It started after I did my timing belt and threw some 7a cams in. We got the car running and went out to go do a new tune for the cams and the car wouldn't hold boost at all to get a good tune on. Well I fixed the boost leak the next day, but it was already time to go back up to school, so I went back up without tuning the car. On the way I hit above 15psi once or twice and the car misfired hard...one time the car actually shut off.

I figured it might be something to do with the tune, so I haven't driven the car hard in the months since then. So I finally got a chance to have Kevin look at it with me and do some tuning. We backed the boost down to 160kpa and for about 10 runs so far, the car misfires somewhere in the pull. It can be seen in the logs as either RPM's wavering, or a little lean spike here or there (as a result of the misfire).

We have increased the dwell to 3.5 to see if that would help to no avail.

Any ideas? Kevin and I are both worried that its hardware related. The coils are grounded to the valve cover and they have a straight power source back to the battery with an inline fuse.

I know the boost is surging, its just a result of the most recent, low boost settings. It doesn't usually do that. The misfire is present whether thats there or not. In this log, there were two misfires. One around 4500 and one around 6k. The one at 6k is visible in the log where the cursor is currently.

Just a possible observation, from the choppiness you are calling the boost surge, the flat line segments indicate (to me) that your logging rate isnt much over 5hz, which is probably why you cant see the 4500 RPM miss nor much trend at the 6000 rpm miss.

Do you have control over the logging rate, and if so set it to maximum.

When trying to diagnose these things, I like to see 30 to 40 samples per second of all the critical data.
