I'm going to try plugs tomorrow. If its that, I'm going to die of humiliation.

My inclination is to say its definitely something to do with spark. The plugs are hardly a month old, but you never know. Coils are brand new d585's, wires are brand new, etc.

Haha, that would be kinda funny if it was as simple as plugs... Which ones are you gonna get?

Marc has some on EFIexpress that are like 5$ each that he says work great!

yeah, thats what are in it right now. Thats also why he and I have both doubted that thats the problem.

I'm just going to throw my bkr7e's in really quickly to see if anything changes

Ya, then that would be kinda weird if they were bad already. Though they dont last as long as the F5DPOR's he said...

You never know though. I'm not ruling anything out plugs are simple and cheap.

update?

Post by audidrvr »

I have stock injectors you are welcome to. PM me if you need them.
Do you have a log file we can look at? I am on 1.1.67 but will be flashing to 1.1.7 this weekend. I also have a problem above 6k rpm, kinda hit or miss, but I think I need to make the reference pin on the flywheel bigger to fix it. Have you double checked all of your vacuum lines?

Yeah, I've double checked them as well as I can here at school. I'll check them with air pressure when I get home next weekend. My trigger errors were above 6k as well. (not the same as the issue I'm having at the moment)

I may flash back to 1.1.70 to figure out these issues because I really hate using megagay

no update yet, I have studying to do!

how would I go about finding eventual trigger errors?

Thanks Pit, let me know how much the shipping was.

If you are on 1.1.70, you can open up a VEMSlog in VEMStune and there is a slider that you can use to run through the log that you took. There is a light in the lower portion of the screen that will light up whenever you are having a trigger error.

Things to do to fix this are involve moving the VR sensors closer to the fw pin and also adding another pin to the flywheel right next to the original pin. The first method didn't completely alleviate my trigger errors. I'm sure the second one would help quite a bit though. We'll have to see whenever I have that part of the car apart I guess.

yeah...I cant find it on my newest version of vemstune either. It just shows me graphs. The other way I had it before allowed me to just look at the gauges like the car was running.

ahhh dammit, the thing is now pig pig pig rich where it wasn't before. Same spots in the map. UGH

I cant tell if the plugs helped now because its so rich. I'm just going to wait until monday when pitten's injectors get here so I know I have a good tune to diagnose with. I can't keep risking tickets to tune this thing. I almost just got one. Did a quick 35% throttle pull, cop started u-turning from in front of me (oops) and I dipped back into my neighborhood really quickly and he never got me haha.

Still no dice on the new plugs. AFR is .85 to .9 where I'm getting the problem, so its not a fuel problem.

I'll be trying the new injectors on Monday or Tuesday which I doubt will make a difference. I'm sure if I give the motor some timing it will respond to it, but I see no good reason to give a motor more timing than it ever needed before on the same exact config.

Soooo, if the injectors don't make a difference, I'll be tearing this thing down when I get home from school the first week of May to take pictures of EVERYTHING and make sure everything is lined up properly. I don't know where to look after that. Of course I'll check compression at some point in time, but I'm almost positive there isn't a problem there.

So I took my cams out today and tried lining them up better this time. I couldn't get them perfect, but Marc said this looked OK. This was the best I could get them to line up. If it looks off, someone speak up! Lined the dizzy up with its mark, and everything was TDC for sure. Put everything back together nicely...

I started the car up and it was running like poo. I decided it might be because of a marginal plug wire. Sure enough, I changed that and it ran fine. Then went for a test drive and it still did the same stuff in boost.

Ran some grounds from the ecu ground spot and still same thing.

I'll do comp check next.

Hmmm, so all your timing is correct. Plugs are good. Wires are good. Tuning is good. Compression would be my next step.

Hopefully thats not the problem though.. :?

Yeah hope not. Could be a marginal coil too, but they are brand new. Than again, the plug wires were brand new too and one was effed. I take extra care to not pull on the wires, just the boots.

Another thing with plug wires is you dont want them to touch each other because the will cause cross fire. If the wires are not insulated good enough they will arc across each other and cause really bad cross fire

Yeah, someone else mentioned that the other day. I guess I can try and separate them out and see what happens...the only thing is, they are crammed all together in stock form and they are SUPPOSED to have good insulation to not do that.

I'm having one of those "while I'm in there" moments right now.

If I end up changing out the fuel pressure regulator just for the hell of it at some point, what would you guys suggest as far as size of inlets and outlets on the reg? Keep in mind my goals...I'd be running either twin 044's or an A1000. Basically I'd like to be able to start building my dream fuel setup here.
