Loxxrider's 200 20v Revver: See you on "The Project Pad"
Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: H1C dying?
Yeah, the oiling is kinda on the edge for running a restrictor or not. Our oil pressure is right on the max of what Holset says we should run. I've seen really small t3 flanges for the drain, but mine is just as big as the outlet on the holset drain hole. I'm not ruling that out as a problem though. I don't know about the turbine wheel...I was always under the impression that they are the EXACT same. The comp wheel is slightly less efficient though. All I know is that its plenty efficient for my engine based on the results I've gotten.

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: H1C dying?
I'm just goin on wat my dsm buddies tell me and wat I read on dsm fourms, they have pages and pages and pages of threads on holsets, and do not get a ebay rebuild, they last bout a week, and have them rebuilt and balance some where or they don't last on high boost, if any one wants I have a 12cm^2 non gated hx35 housing forsale,
Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: H1C dying?
I plan to use a genuine Holset kit to rebuild. Thats a no-brainer. DSM's run 100+psi, so thats why they have so many problems. I may just try out a -4 to -3 adapter fitting. That should restrict it a little.
Now the balancing thing...I think thats complete bs since they are zero-balanced. Even in the holset literature they say its not necessary.

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: H1C dying?
I know they are and I know the rebuild says they don't need balancing but the guys from htt say they do, and I trust them guys. So idk, I belive htt only charges 75 bucks to balance. I have talked to there head turbo builder a lot bout holsets, give them a email
Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: H1C dying?
I hear ya. There is a place in Miami that balances for the same price. I think with this turbo I'm willing to take the risk since $75 is half the price of another one. BUT I will still be considering it for the hx52.

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: H1C dying?
I can't believe how cheap Holsets can be obtained for!
Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: H1C dying?
lol ya, i had a typo too...I can get another H1C for $100. HX40 is $150 so $75 is half the price of that.

If you want to sell the rebuild kit, lets talk
You know you can get a 60mm comp and housing for your H1C from Gillett Diesel Service, which is cheaper than HTT. I'm going to be putting one on my truck which coincidentally has that same turbo. Also, If you want to increase the spool I might look into locating a 9cm2 turbine housings. They used them on the 4BT Cummins. Just throwing it out there.
Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: H1C dying?
Yeah, I did know about the upgrade thing...didn't know it was cheaper from Gillett though. Do you know an approximate price? I'm not sure if a 9cm will flow enough for my goals. The 12 is definitely just fine in my opinion.

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: H1C dying?
So how much would it cost to do the "Super"? Of course, if the rebuild it cheaper at this point, i'd say go for it! But either way Chris, keep up the good work man! (next time bust out the go-pro and video that chiz! I wanna watch!)

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: H1C dying?
ya I know, I wanted to video it, but forgot the gopro at home. Super 40 would cost about $150 for the turbo and then I'd have to mod the dp...so I dunno if that would be worth it.
Regardless, for the record I just ordered some -4 to -3 adapter fittings. That should bring my smallest diameter down a bit to (hopefully) bring the pressure down some...I dunno if it will help or not, but we'll see. Thats my first attempt at a solution for this.

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: H1C dying?
Is there any way of checking what the oil pressure is by going down to the -3 fitting? Or calculating it out?
Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: H1C dying?
There really isn't a good way to calculate it without knowing pressure in the line, pressure in the return line, etc. Just gotta use a gauge or something. However, if you think about it, pressure is a function of how big your drain line is compared to how big your feed is. A smaller feed with the same drain will definitely reduce the pressure some as long as the drain is sufficient.

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: H1C dying?
Very true. I just read on a DSM forum that the holsets require a drain line that is 19mm inner diameter minimum

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: H1C dying?
That's wat I was saying befor, they need a very large return line or the will seep oil into the housings

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: H1C dying?
Ya, and i did some more reading and 19mm id is about a -12AN line

I think it was somewhere in the neighborhood of 175-250. Probably more expensive than getting another holset, but it sure is easy to upgrade to a bigger wheel on these things
.Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: H1C dying?
Yeah, thats definitely not bad.
The whole drain line thing...I dunno. I've never seen a problem with -10 on the ones I've seen in person, but maybe mine is the first. The thing is, I don't even know if our block drains are bigger than a -10 line so that wouldn't really make a difference.

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: H1C dying?
That's a good point. What about blocking the block drain line and putting the drain in the oil pan so you can get the right size?
Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: H1C dying?
You could certainly do that AS LONG AS the hole is completely above the oil level at all times.

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: H1C dying?
Remember, if there is crankcase pressure it doesn't matter how big the drain is if its being forced back up the drain. You have that taken care of with the catch can setup. Just saying, there are a lot of variables.

Tried some new shoes on the 200 today. I think they look OK, but I don't love them. Guess they'll go on the E36 unless someone wants to buy them
