Hanks URQ 2.6L Autopsy

[url][/url]Just picked up a 81 Euro URQ with 100k miles.. It looks like a good one. Got it in San Diego where it spent a yea after spending it's life in Reno Nevada. The car came with no motor( well just shortblock) which i don't really care about sense it is gonna get the 20v motor of death out of my 5000tq and eventually probly a mean 20v thereafter... I need to build a new header for the URq because i don't think my 5k header will fit and plus i sold it[url][/url]...

Picture sucks, taking digi pictures of a picture sucks...

I started to dig into the car though today... and i have a question i need answered( thus the lame post with no pictures)

What is the best way to cut up the crossmember on these cars? Ive seen people just cut a hacksaw the front next to the hood releases, sortof unclassy but funtional... Its gonna get a huge IC and stuff, so i need to do it sooner or later, and i want to get the shortblock out today...

any advise??

tis it is... tis it is... Pretty good car actually, im stoked...

I figured thats what your wanted ad for the bumpers on audifans was for. Its in pretty steller shape for 1700... Its far from perfect, but its close to being nice...

I took maters into my own hands and cut the bottom support like yours ( on your white car) but i am still trying to decide what to do twith the top part.. any recomendations Derek.... I figure that that bottom support will never give me enough room for a decent intercooler, so i minds as well cut it off...

I think my version is a little bit differnt the US versions as far as the bumper section goes, but i havn't seen any other UR's to confirm it...

just make a new tube go under the IC just in front of the motor like the rally cars. and then make one that tucks inside the bumper. it'll be way stronger than the factory sheetmetal and give you more room to work with.

and actually, the bumper ads were for my v8 4kq, i got's sick ideas in my head :tard:

Not gonna happen Jim i afraid.. I want it too so badly, but i have a few things in need to sort first... I'll dip by in the 5ktq and let you take it for a thrashing... just brake really hard so someone will rearend that heap... LOL

Jimmy, You gonna still be in town? I'll be at the excaliber saturday night if your interested in meeting up... I took the 5kq off insurance this week, but i might put on my dads plates if you interested... Lemme know

nope it was james bond... hence the shortblock, MI-6 took off the super secret 6 valve cylinderhead they made up, along with the injection and electronics package for it...

i spose that will eventually show up in some english car somewhere....

go to the bottom of that page.. me and a fellow MGer want to get a few sent here from the UK, about 195 pounds at 1: 1.90 US dollar, so not cheap but a more pleasant way to make stuff fit behind. shipping is a bitch but splitting between a few sets may be easy, plus we may have a lead on a shipping container....

How is he? I haven't spoken much with him since he left NY. What steering wheel did you get with the car? I first met him when I sold him my OEM European 3-Spoke Sport steering wheel, and he fit it to that white car.

I bought the two on the outside, not the middle, off eBay a while back, and will soon have my friend copy and burn them to DVD, maybe even host them on his site. If anyone wants a copy, I'm going to ask $1 or 2 per DVD (I'm not sure how cheap these are these days) and shipping. They are great videos!

Yes that wheel found its way to my car. ITs a pretty sweet wheel.

Mr bond is good, nice enough fella. He's got some pretty cool toys, and he is marketing a very good energy drink called Crunk(it might be Krunk..) We drove all night to san Diego to get the car picked it up and was ready to make the trip back, so he hooked us up with like a 12 pack of krunk. needless to say we made it back with the car and we were up for a total of 38 hours .LOL

Ya, Mike is a pretty cool guy. He works for Sidney Frank Importing Co, who makes Crunk Juice, as well as imports Jagermeister. When I sold him the Sport wheel, he gave me a bottle of Jagermeister :-)

Those tubes are aluminum. (I tink I forgot to mention that in the original post on my page). Very light. looks like a thick wall 1.5" pipe. Maybe Sch40 aluminum pipe.

The top crossbrace is intergral to the frontgrill and is a ovoid aluminum tub that is bolted down to the steel unibody into two curved sheetmetal seats. (female shape of the tube). Its just thicker than flatbar with some horizontal span strength. Its got a mandrel bend in it for the intercooler mount which is a pin protruding from the top of the intercooler that the bar clamps down on.

Just got around to makeing up a new header today for the URQ... Just tacked, but its all good to go... it will get welded in the next couple of days, saturday for sure..... Just got a couple of questiosn... I just have the 4ktq lights on there right now, but i messed up on my last header becuase i built the theing for US spec lights, and then the EURO lights came and they were WAY deeper... I left myself more room this time but it is still kindof close... Can anyone tell me if the slanted Euro lights will be alright, or give me a general reference point i can look at? TIA

Oh and James, I appriciate your your last post, i didn't see it till just now, i don't know what i have been smokin.... I think i am gonna try and emulate that...

Been a while since i updated my Project page... A lot has been done... I broke down and painted the engine bay black so Wiz wouldn't have a cow....

I finished up the header and downpipe...

I decided to tie in the Wastegate this header. It is way easier to vent it to atmosphere... but its loud in an unrefined way... So i spent a half a day getting that wastgate in the almost impossible place.... I sortof wish i would have went with like a TIAL unit or something, but i had the flanges(nice 034 pieces) and so i rolled with it...Turned out pretty..

I picked up and radiator from 034 and boy is it a pretty piece... Worth every penny IMO... also you can see in that picture, i switched over to a CGT vac brake setup... I just did it to loose some weight and complexity... I still have all the URQ bits if anyone needs them...

I also finished up my IC which Im a little washy about... Dementionally, it is a perfect fit, but i got it off ebay and its a stinky tube style, which i didn't realize untill it got here... but i paid only 150 for it.. so I guess i got what i paid for..

Lastly, i got a killer deal on a pair of Cebie's...so that will be coo... I got a question though about the trim surroundings... What part of what car do i need?? If you have them PM me.... OH yea, and i know ya'lll want em headlight squirters

I think that should update me... I am just finishing up wiring... shrinkin up everything, and gonna have this beatch runnin in the next week for sure...

yeah, i'm concerned that this car does not belong to me and that your header is progress is progressing too fast jimmy. i think you should slow to 1/10th your current pace so i can at least catch my breath from having to click on all the new pics and read all the stuff on your car......
