good choice on picking HID projectors b/c those HID conversion kits dont work right on regular headlight housing b/c regular headlights and HID headlights have different reflective properties. The end result with HIDs would be light that was extremely bright but, that could not be aimed correctly.
By using projection HIDs you avoid that issue by using its own housing. Now idn if the lens on ur light are glass or lexan and that have groves molded in from what i can see from the pictures. those groves may or may not be a problem b/c from the picture your covering the projector with the lens with the groves.

Over all its coming out real nice. cant wait see how it comes out. good luck.

yes, i'm aware of the HID issue with people just throwing HID bulbs in standard light housings. the problem lies in the fact that there's a divider between the high and low beam elements in the light bulb reflecting the light to go to the top or bottom of the light bucket. HID's are just a bulb that light up and when put in a standard light housing, they give the effect of both high and low at the same time.... which is good for seeing where you're going, but not for the poor people coming at you

i built a set of lights like this before with the projectors in the same positions, and the fluting (or grooves in the glass), don't appear to affect the lighting output or direction of the projectors. IMO, it's because the fluting in this portion of the lense is designed to be used as a flood light, not particularly directing or diffusing it right in front of the car. the regular high/low beam portion of the lense obviously has much more fluting and would require removing them for the projector to work as it was originally intended.... and that's way better than the original 4kq lights

If your concerned about blinding the other poor people. then if its your style you may want to make or get ahold of a pair or eye lids for those headlamps. it may or may not help.

no, that's why i went the route i went

my setup works just as any newer audi does and will be adjustable for setting proper aim of the lights.

You have done everything I have ever wanted to do to one of these, and Im finally slowly getting started.

Im not sure weather it makes me want to give up, or inspires me... If nothing else I dont feel like the only idiot willing to do such a thing, now if I only had the funds/free time...

hopefully it's inspiration to put your 4kq together in a great fashion 8) i would hate to know that my work makes others want to quit instead of make their fine automobiles finer, and last longer, and perform better. you can always go buy a new car and be like thousands of punks, but it's a different ball game to keep a car from a different era alive, upgraded, and being able to show up those punks

it really does mean a lot to me when people compliment the work i do on my cars. it's like somehow i'm famous, yet i've never been in a magazine

A6 4.2 8) yeah, you can find them on ebay. just make sure they are listed as bixenon, and have the metal looking flapper deal in there. if there's no solenoid or wires sticking off the light housing, then they are likely just regular projectors.

wow I went through the whole thread and Im speechless, amazing car and I love the paint on the valve cover, do you have a link? Also the valve cover looks like a 7a cover but you mention using a 3b head, are the valve covers from the 7a and 3b the same, or am I seeing stuff?

I have always felt that anyone with $70k could go buy an RS4, which is obviously completely ba-dass, and is just that, a $70k car, but it really takes some knowledge, patience love and a whole line of other adjectives to take a 20 or so year old vehicle and restore, and update it etc.

Id say my 87 zermatt 4kq outfitted at 80% of what you have done is really my dream car, something I dont think the guy next to me tonight in the yellow Lamborghini would ever get.. I have been dreaming it up for ten years or so, its fantastic to see it is possible, and that Im not the only fool dreaming it.

Sorry, dont mean to thread jack... Or to get to philosophical.
