When did you get married Derek, I thought you were only engaged? I see a wedding ring in one of the pics...

 yeah, Eric asked about the ring earlier. a lot of people do too, so don't worry :)

i got the top and bottom plates welded up tonight, still sometimes having a hard time getting my welds nice. it's sooo easy to tip the torch the wrong way and VOOOOPP! your little piece you spent 20 minutes cutting out is half gone :P luckily i avoided that tonight, but had a close call.

The intake must not be finished yet...there's no "powered by D3R3K" on there!

hey guys, thanks for the compliments! i'm happy with how it's turning out so far. big thanks to hank for the bits on the IM, and i've got a special fuel rail coming my way from him as well, i can't wait to see it!

i also picked up something today for the engine bay. i'm going to keep it a secret until the installation is complete. it's pretty new technology and i'm looking forward to playing with it and seeing how well it works in the real world.

the change in direction on the car is this. i was going to go with 034's AAN motronic tune for the 3071, then looked hard at my 35R that's been sitting on the shelf for a couple years now from the old 3.6 project that never got completed (and now is too small for the 4.2), but in order to run that 35R it doubled my projected budget for this round of upgrades (not including the other unexpected repairs to the head and change of the bottom end), so i think it's best i go with my IIc, current 60lb injectors, and a really... really, big turbo. :D

i can't wait to hear this thing at full tilt with that exhaust system. i think i'll leave the BOV out of the plumbing for a while and enjoy a little turbo chatter :D

i also have been thinking about what to do about tuning. there is a dyno about 500ft from my dads shop. it's a mustang and has been there for about 6 years or so. the original owner of the shop ran a smog shop there and installed this for making some extra income. he unfortunately had a heart attack and decided to retire, selling the shop and the new guys don't push the dyno stuff much, but i wanna go have a talk with them and see if i can rent it for a day. now, the problem with that is, it's a 2wd... so, i guess i gotta make my car rwd again :D hehe. can't wait to play with this new setup.

Don't you put that thing in your intake to double your mileage and horsepower?

ok, time for another update. while visiting with Aaron (speeding-g60) and asking what coils he has to light off E85 @ 45psi, he said he's using some newer vw coils, and i thought, hmm... big coil box on the firewall, or nice small coils in the VC.... i think i'll go with the coils in the VC. so, i set to modding my 7A VC to accept these newer coils.

Image

too big even with the shaved lip..
Image

out comes the die grinder(hand mill :P) and a square aluminum bit, and round to town we go!
Image

you can see there is two steps, the top ring is the largest and allows for a sealing O-ring to settle in when you push the coil in place. the lower ring just allows for the plastic portion of the coil to slide down.

Image

Image

Image

mm, what a mess!
Image

and, coil in place..
Image

i think it'll look good with the coils angled like on the newer cars and a tidy harness. it'll almost look as good as the 7A wire ends sticking out and neatly routed 8)
