I'm really happy to have found this thread and site. Not only does it have a lot of good info, but now that I know there are others out there who see the intrinsic value in these cars I feel inspired start working on mine again.
It was cool to read a few years of posts on this build in a few hours, but now of course I want to see more... :-)

so, since the last time i updated, i've been to germany, packed and moved my fiancee' to the US, and now for finishing this project phase up!
lets see... started with just checking my list and getting the last few things done.
installed mustang tranny mounts for engine mounts

welded and wrapped the waste gate dump pipe.
mounted the oil cooler
made P/S pump supply line from the reservoir
finished the 60-2 crank sensor bracket

the bracket is slotted for adjusting

refinished the valve cover

made some radiator ducting

tore the engine apart

found my bent valves

i'm thinking about putting oversized 34mm intake valves in with the undercut stems. my machine shop will do the seat work for a reasonable price, and... it's not thaaaat much more for the bigger valves
i mean, the oversized ones from 034 are less than retail on OEM intake valves, by at least half! justified in my book
and as in my other post, this is my findings on the bearings
i hope to have the bottom end put back together tonight, then just wait on the head!

derracuda wrote:SOooooo, about two years ago when i put my zermatt's 3b engine together, i put the oil pump plunger in backwards unknowingly and had no oil pressure. I installed 034's coated bearings, lubed up liberally, and the engine was run for between 5-10 minutes with zero oil flow. i've since put a little over 2k miles on the car, ran a 13.03@105 with rev-limiter clutch drops, and during my tear down to swap the rotating assembly into my new block with coated pistons, this is what i found.
#1. is at the top. the upper shell you can see a wear through, but i don't know if it was just coated thinner than the rest.
some small knicks i found throughout the bearings, not from installation
pretty dang impressive
there are some very small scratches in the bearings. should i replace them, or just run what i have. the crank spun over nicely when i rotated it by hand before taking it apart.
Aside from the rear thrust bearing surface being worn, i think everything fared pretty well. Kudo's to a product that saved my crank and rods.
just thought you guys might like to see 8)
i hope to have the bottom end put back together tonight, then just wait on the head!

Anal machinist speaking, these cranks are really hard and I'm just used
to seeing them polished like a mirror. It will be fine.
i wish you were closer, i'd let you go all anal on my engine bits!
