Ok... for a second there, I was really confused, as I though that the only 60-2 wheels came on ABA cranks :bashtard: . I searched Vagcat and couldn't find anything :wtf: , and now it all makes sense :-D[/quote]

Hmmm, now that you mention it, I wonder if it would be possible to implement an internal trigger wheel like that with a bit of machining. VR6's had them, too.

thats in CA right now, so there'll be no getting away up here in OR. at least not right now.

my ranting wasn't meant in a malicious way, just annoyed to still have to fight through that, and of course it's compounded after spending a 15 hour day working on the car, many of those hours in the sun getting roasted (i'm a bit pink :P) and to get foiled at that point last night was such torture :P

and yes Jimmy, it is a pretty sweet sound :D it's better in person. i gotta get the rest of the dash wrapped up and the IC put on here in a bit. i'm just sort of basking for a little bit here in the relief of hearing it run once again.

Thank you Nate @ 034, best guy ever with more patience and computer knowledge than me 8)

pic update to come later on the finalizing of the wiring and engine build/installation.

ok, many things have transpired over the last month, and the car got left in a lurch while the valves were in need of replacement and having problems with a local machinist who didn't feel comfortable installing the oversized valves i purchased from 034, which are the 32mm units. thems be installed now...

Image

i was also going to install a windage tray, but decided on building a crank scraper instead. it's rather time consuming to get it nice, all the clearances are between .010-30" per some guidlines i found for making scrapers.

windage tray...
Image

scraper..
Image
Image

the scraper i sort of made to do the same job as the windage tray in helping to keep the oil from climbing the block, yet allow for drain back since the engine sits at a slant, the oil would get trapped between the block and scraper pan once it gets above it. there is now a slight gap

Image

there's also this baffle i put in the pan. however, i did overlook the area where the dipstick comes through... and once i had the engine in and went to check the oil, DOINK, required dropping the pan and notching that baffle.

Image

i also did a couple small things while the engine was out since they were easier.

mounted the afterrun pump (which i'll likely hook up later, the one i have weeps)
Image
Image

under header turbo brace
Image
lightened with holes :P
Image

and a gratuitous engine stand shot which seems to be popular 8)
Image

the next part was putting it back in the car
Image

getting the stuff hooked up
Image
Image
Image

battery cable holder to keep it from flopping around like it sort of was before
Image

more heat shielding for the turbo side
Image

wire protection 8)
Image
Image

yikes! this happened taking the gear OFF the cam...
Image

rounded off brass water fitting for the top of the turbo. once all that stuff was installed i pressurized the cooling system to find leaks before dumping coolant everywhere and had a few leaks. once was my pipe that i welded for the after run pump.
Image

then on to wiring...

the new harness is much smaller than the 3B, and the old hole i made for the 3B boot was too large. making a hole filler/adapter like this is kind of a pain. a bad spot and just difficult to fabricate.
Image
Image

the ol' 3B ecu mounting :D
Image

new IIc mounting 8)
Image
Image

the last few cars i've taken apart that were newer, i have been pigeon holing hardware and clips for future uses like this. i hate nut and bolting everything together... I'M NOT BRITISH!
Image
Image

fused power supply for the ecu, injectors, and coils.
Image

accessible from inside the G-box. the panel is from some VW, i think a MKIII jetta or golf, sits inside a plastic box which i ditched.
Image

engine bay wiring...
Image

lexus(aka denso) coils. dirt cheap from the wrecking yard. they are an experiment, but they put out a visibly BRIGHT spark from the quick test i did with a spark plug last night.
Image

almost everything is somehow protected by heat shielding or wrap.
Image
Image
Image

last pic for a while. still have some dash wiring to wrap up for temp gauge and tach plus fuel pump relay triggering.

two weeks from today is the wedding. I've purchased a business and have to tend to that when i get back home, have friends and family coming from all over the country and world for the wedding... man, so much to do

is it safe to put an air filter down so low like that? are you sure it isn't gonna suck in any water?

this isn't an offroading car, so i'm not worried about it. besides, once the lower spoiler is on, there will be an under tray and that will help keep it clean. the WG dump tube is just temporary until i decide i don't like atmospheric venting WG noises :P

i drove it around the shop a few rounds, definitely need to get use to the new engine mounts. they are um, stiff. the clutch still grabs decently. no herky jerky, just quick engagement. so, i'm gonna use this turbo to put a SPEC stage 3 to the limit and then plan my 01E swap with a dual disc clutch and trans mounted 60-2 sensor setup.

as for the bride, she'll get plenty of rides in this thing later. i've got another plan for her up my sleeve for a going away ride :) it's top secret right now, and has been since october, so, only two more weeks to go :D

The getaway car must be your UrQ! You haven't shared anything about it, so that must be it. RS6 V10, 01E, and 22"x12" wheels!

Have good time for your wedding, Derek. You bought a business? Car related by chance?

actually, completely un-car related :) public water safety related, testing backflow devices. my fiancee's Aunt retired and we bought her out. it's a bit of a rough transition because she had her mind set on when she wanted to quit, and we found out she was retiring 2 weeks before she did, so there's been some crazy late nights for me working on all different things, having to go to school to get certified for testing, opening all the business related things, bank accounts, insurances, bonding, state license, multiple city licenses, spent time hoofing it around the Oregon state capital to petition for some laws to get changed in OR regarding backflow (it's all screwed up right now), selling some cars i have, putting other ones together :), customer cars, and wedding plans. working late nights here in CA, then driving all night back to OR (like i'm just about to tonight) it'll get ironed out. i'm hoping to be able to sleep again in a few months from now. (feel like i should go back and take out all the punctuation to show my exasperation and how i really feel inside right now :P)

Don't forget the T-Belt cover  . Are you going to settle down in Cali or Oregon? I'm going to be in the Portland/Eugene area, and I'd like to see this in person.
