Do you have all the parts you need? I know you had a big list of stuff you needed a while back.

Starting from scratch for the swap. I'm currently working on getting a trans and all the parts I need though.

So as everyone already probably knows, I'm going 01E. Today I pulled the trans and had a chance to really inspect the damage....

Yup...

SO added to my list of things to do is repair the trans tunnel and clean up the oily underside. Everything is soaked. I gotta say, I already miss this thing, I can't wait to get it back up on the road!!!

Thanks man! Ya, it's a setback but I knew it was going to happen at some point. It's just an excuse to build it even more. ALSO this way I won't have to worry so much about running the 5857. :)

So like... should I just expect my trans to blow up with the billet 30r? What if I don't launch it? It would not fly with the wife if it blew and I had to spend pretty much any money on a swap. although putting another 016 in would be a few hours and quite cheap. Maybe I should start searching for a spare 016 now...

Short answer? Yes it will blow up. It'll last longer if you don't launch it. That's for sure. Nick beat the Hell out of his 016 and he never blew it up though. So. Hit or miss maybe?

Here are a couple things about mine, I launched maybe 6 times, I was boosting whenever I could and as far as I know this trans had over 300k on it. SO More than likely with all that, it just was not up to the task. PLUS I do believe my engine was making some pretty stellar torque after 3k rpms.

So hit or miss - last through hell or blow up at 15psi. Lol, awesome.

Iirc, mine was pretty nice and smooth last I recalled... launch control was never setup but it lived for who knows how long with an mc1 swap before the AAN. No idea on abuse levels. Guess I'll start hunting for a cheap/free replacement. Once hank has a kit price for 01e swap stuff together I'll consider that as well

Having a backup is not a bad idea. :)

SO I have just decided while I have this all apart, I'm going to (at the very least) install some front coil-overs. I have had it with all the fender rubbing, and until I can afford to wide body it I need to raise this front end up. SO I guess my question is, what springs should I pick up for the front and the rear end? How many pounds? Just so it's out there, I am running Bilstein HD rears and Koni internally adjustable fronts.

I'm not sure what shocks my car is running, might be stock but I'll have to check Mike's thread on mg. Anyway my car's got 350lb all around and it's pretty stiff. A bit harsh for the family but fine for me to rip around in.

I would REALLY like to keep it comfortable and use a good swaybar setup for corning duty. Do you think 325 would be soft enough to keep the ride nice?

When I push down on my fenders nothing happens. 325 or even 300 would probably be better. Maybe 300 front, 325 rear.

Ben, I have 400lb springs all around and eventually i think im going to step up the front to 450 and the rear to 500. I say if you can just get away with just adding the weld on perches, the threaded collars and adjuster rings from ground control i could just sell you my 400 lb springs when i switch em for the stiffer ones. By doing that you would have the ability to raise up your front end for the time being, and you can come drive my car and see how you like the 400's. I have externally adjustable konis and when they are turned to a softer setting the car rides suprisingly soft and smooth, then just turn em up to "race" for hitting some corners. I gaurantee that with 300 or 325 lb springs if you ever go to a track or do autox you will wish you had stiffer springs. For reference, Marshalls ABZ race 4kq had 500 lb springs in the front and something crazy like 675 in the rear.

Forgot to say something... Just order the kit from ground control sans springs. You will need to tell them you have billsteins rear and konis front because i think the top hats are different.

Ben or Dan if either of you are interested in some 6" 450LB springs I'm looking to get some 7" springs. At my current setup the front has to be ALL the way up in order to clear the fender during daily duties.

What do they ride like? I imagine 450 is pretty rough isn't it?

450 in the front 550 in the rear. It's kinda rough, but I also can blame that partially on the bilsteins being blown and HD's instead of sports.
I need Konis.....
