Big 2nd...not a race car, don't strip it. Sounds cool on paper but it gets old fast.

Why do you want to strip all that stuff out? It's already light enough.

I agree with the guys Matt.

I was thinking full race spec for my sport. and now I've completely done a 180.

After watching the singer Porsche video, I'm thinking some creature comfort is the way to go.

Like Ed said these cars are pretty light to begin with. Just my 0.02 :D

I love a stripped car, and commute in mine daily. it is pure function over form. Not for merry men for sure but i just love the simplicity and added lightness, and i love race cars, and i love things that don't seem like they should be able to go quickly, that do. It is tough to argue with a well done job like a Singer P car too....decisions! 8-)

What is your daily and what did you remove? Thanks for chiming in on the other side! Really the only creature comforts I'd be getting rid of are the power windows/sunroof and heat, which I already can't use most of the time because when I turn on the blower the windshield wipers turn on. This is a summer only car anyway. I think some people like the stripped down minimalist approach, and others don't. And that's okay!

But yeah those singers... wow. I think taking it down to the essentials will hopefully allow me to approach and succeed in perfecting the details that really matter.. Like how to make a stripped car still seem nice! :)

I daily a corrado. No trim inside. No carpet. No sound deadening. Half a dash (just driver's side remains). Put together a rear bench seat that stays out unless i've got to haul the little people in it which i mostl avoid. No power steering. No radio. Heat remains as well as A/C though (i do commute in uniform in the desert summers). Rear wiper deleted. Single up front. I get an odd satisfaction from deleting things from a car. :drive:

Oh the TDI corrado! Duh. Cool. I'd have to keep my radio and try to hide the wires somehow. Got any vids, in car or out?

I think a stripped car can be enjoyable as well, as long as you have something nice to drive if you don't feel like driving the stripped car. Even though I've never had a completely gutted car, I sort of feel like I have because I've driven so many cars without AC and or with harsh suspension, etc. in FL... You basically can't do anything but enjoy the drive, and that is refreshing some days.

Other days, the luxuries are nice :) I think you'll get tired of it if it is your only "nice" car (I don't think the Geo qualifies as being able to be your plush car lol). Then again, a 4k isn't exactly a plush-mobile either. I don't think it is nearly as much of a loss as gutting an S-car or 200/V8. Also, it can be done in a reversible fashion if you find that you really hate it!

I think I really want a Yakima 1A roof rack. I love the way they look and how they kind of box the car out. Only thing is I can't find any decent used ones and I can't afford over $200 for something cosmetic so I'll have to keep a lookin.

I know.. I know. I've got VEMS on the ecu repairs. I'll have him send it direct when done.

I'm still thinking of a BBK without changing all the suspension components. According to audistyleracing.com I should be able to get a kit made up using Wilwood Dynalite calipers, rotors from adamsrotors.com, and brackets from TCE.

I really wish there was a kit :P

Crap, I am totally spacing who makes it, but there is a company in Canada that makes a BBK for the stock 4kq suspension using the Dynalite calipers.

Hey Matt, I just remembered, it was RPI Equipped. https://www.rpiequipped.com/store/ It doesn't look like they make them anymore, but you might give them a call and ask them about it. :)

DYnalites are extremely flexy calipers. You can actually feel the caliper housing flex in the pedal as you clamp down on them. With the prices of 996 stuff, I'd stick to a mono.

Ya, I agree, they aren't the most rigid calipers on the planet.

Finally found a roof rack locally. Picked up a Thule gutter rack for 95 bucks. Guy had it on his 88 volvo but just got a new subie. I just need one rubber end cap. Hopefully I'll get them on tonight and take a quick photo.

I also might just keep the big red brake kit I've got and get b3 struts and swap em out later.

Thanks, but no snow for this old girl. Don't want her to fall apart!

Also got news that my VEMS should be coming back to me soon! I'm hella stoked.

I've just heard too many horror stories of guys bringing clean southern cars up here only to have the salt kill them in two years.
