Re: Nick's 1991 200q Project - QUAT44RO
Blocks have arrived at FRP. Pistons are in route to Jeff and things will start coming together
Discs came in:

Working on mounting up the D2S8 calipers. I'll be 3D printing this part for testing next week when my new printer arrives.

Currently they looks like this:

D2S8's are designed to run on 345mm rotors though they won't fit under a 17" wheel (which I'd like to keep). So I plan to use these rotors which came off of my B5. They are 331X30 from ECS tuning. My new bracket should pull the calipers in just the right amount. Updates to follow.

big hnnnng on those calipers. Are they not available through apikol? If not hopefully you will be donating (selling) them to aid in the preservation of 200's not in tree's due to g60's

They aren't available anywhere as far as I know. Normally you could use B5 S4 993 brackets however that's only for use on a standard 345mm D2S8 rotor. Which also means having to buy new rotors and I'd have to run 18" wheels. My plan is to recycle the rotors from my B5 which are 331mm to fit under 17's. So a custom bracket is a must.

Those look so good. Good luck with the printer. Some buddies of mine from work have one and have really had a tough time getting it right.

Thanks man! The eBay one that I bought? I found nothing but good reviews. Anything specific?
I don't like hearing that :( We'll see this week.

I'm not exactly sure which one they have, but I can find out. The problems first involved warpage, but that is just one of those things you learn how to counteract with various methods. That is part of the printing game. The real problem now is that their extruder has been acting up. It will randomly clog and ruin the part, sometimes early in the print, sometimes almost at the end. I think that started when they tried a different material than ABS. Something got screwed up somewhere along the line. They just haven't wanted to spend the money to buy a new extruder. That would probably fix it.
I'm looking forward to how you get along with it though. 3D printers are kind of like Megasquirt. Some people have better luck with it than others (mostly because of know-how/skill!).
The same thing applies for major manufacturers with new tech like this. You wouldn't believe how much time/money they waste perfecting a process on complex parts, mostly due to warpage issues. I've come to learn a bit about the DMLS process (direct metal laser sintering) which is like 3D printing, but with metal. It is awesome, and the parts can have strength properties as good or better than a forged part believe it or not.
