You think you could get 4 brand new CHRA's balanced and ready to go for 425? I am sure they come with a warantee as well right That sounds like you could get 2 used ones that need rebuilt for 70$ a piece.

no way man, I can get a core for $100 and IF it needs rebuilt its $80 drop shipped from Cummins and no need to balance since everything is zero balanced

So assuming I had a Holset that this happened to and it needed rebuilt, I could rebuild it approximately 5 times for $425 If I needed turbine and comp wheels then yeah... I'd probably only be able to do it twice. You know I'm just ribbin' ya, but it is true!

Well, a few things have gone on on this car in the last couple of weeks. I have been swamped with work so I have only been working on this beast after hours. I have managed to get pretty far with the motor, but those details will have to wait for later. Biggest updates on the car are brakes and progress on a new header setup. See, I want to have the option of running big, dyno queen numbers and still take it to the track. The tial flange I have on there right now only supports the 3586r as the biggest turbo available to that flange. To achieve this, I'll flange the manifold for a 42r tial housing, and then have a modular adapter to get it to the 35r housing size or whatever adapter I want if I ever get ahold of a EFR turbo/play with a spool valve. So I made a few headers this week for customers and decided to play with my own too. If anyone is interested in the exhaust or intake setup, my mind is constantly brewing for new ideas on new setups....

I also did some brake work. At Miller two weekends ago, my poor TT brake setup was just not up to the task of hauling down the car from 130 on multiple straits lap after lap. Even with Hawk blues, it still struggled to keep a stiff pedal. I got ahold of a couple of calipers and swooped on some really nice Racing Brake 2 piece fully floating 320x30mm rotors with b5 s4 offset. I could pass them up. I wish they had about 6mm more offset, but I will probably make some new hats to put them inboard. You see, I got some 996 tt calipers on ebay that were in great shape and came with some nice track pads. The problem is that they are HUGE!!! I wanted them because they are stock with 32mm wide rotors so running 1.25" aftermarket rings would be cheaper than the oddball 28mm size. The problem is that they are having a hard time clearing hte enkeis. I am pretty darn attached to them. I made brackets for them, but they just are not going to work with the current 35mm offset of the 17x9 rpf1. I may try a different offset rpf1 to see if I can push the spokes out and then run spacers to clear the brakes. It is too bad because the car look menacing with them on. The thing that pisses me off is that the Fat Fives clear just fine.. I probably only need regular 996 stuff anyways. The car is light, and I am not a good enough driver to really overwork them. So I switch plans and used some Cayman S calipers which have the same part number as the 996 stuff. They look great, match the paint and will probably haul the car down just fine.

The bay is pretty close to stripped now, and I am going to paint the bay before BBQ2 along with my new 4kq hood. With the engine solid mounted now, I hope that hte hood lasts longer I want to run a new flying lead harness and install my new headlight harness I scored off ebay for cheap along with the brackets!! :woowoo: :woowoo:

Very nice Hank!! Makes me wonder why I'm even messing around with a log manifold. I know, I know that it is to keep the power levels down below tranny grenading levels, but a tube manifold just looks so nice. I am way stoked about the brakes. Nice score.

Can I renig on a renig? I want to try the 996tt calipers one more time with a custom hat I am going to machine mid week. I think I can move the rotor in 6mm, which will negate the difference in caliper width between the 996 and 996tt caliper. If this is the case, you probably can end up with these calipers and the brackets as interest

Are you talking about the breathers on top of the valve cover? I am sick of the stuff on the firewall. I am going to brace the towers, brace the frame rails, and put a bunch of that stuff behind the firewall. The catch can I have is nice, but it is really bulky. I designed and executed a long time ago, and they need revisited. I may end up making a new valve cover with the tall deck, as I think it will have a hard time fitting under the hood without lowering the engine. The same goes for the Intake manifold. I like the current valve cover because it takes less than 3 minutes to change plugs, or diagnose breathing issues. I would like to clean up the wiring a lot and get rid of a lot of the clutter.

lol...yeah, just let me know when you get things sorted out...I'm sure that I will not have made any progress toward anything automotive before then...

And yes, the breathers on the valve cover...just wondering if you had plans to tidy them up...I know they are very functional and convenient and designed with that as a priority.

Hank, i picked up a pair of 993 non-turbo 4 piston calipers (for no real reason) if you think they will work for you.... one size under the 996/993TT. with rotors, too. (the Porsche rotors)

My work for battleborn must be done by the 28th of August. I start my last real semester of college that includes 6am-11am every morning working on the Forumula SAE car. I am working with the drivetrain portion of hte build, which will include a yzf 250cc 4 stroke motor. Naturally, I will slap a turbo on. In motorcycle engines, you have a jug that splits from the case. I plan on putting an 8mm spacer in between the jug and the case along with double gaskets in order to make a "tall deck" configuration. I'll run a custom rod along with a custom piston and rev it to around 17k! The same motor made 28whp last year on our dyno, and this year I hope to triple it to a healthy 85whp!!

I don't know how much time I will have with the car. I hope to have the stroker in with a balanced assembly and a serpentine setup before BBQ. I'll likely run the same 3582r till the springtime and use just a basic ferrea valved head with 7a cams. This last winter was it's last snow winter. It is only mild rain from here on out for the old horse. This spring I will probably put in Cats with solid lifters and a gtx42r and shoot for 1000whp on the setup.
