At least on my 20v there's actually 2x 17mm on the top alt mount, bolt on each side not bolt through. You mentioned "top alternator bolt" singular so just making sure you didn't forget that guy (if it's there)

Lol I feel like a doofus, I woke up at 6am this morning and found the other incredibly inaccessible bolt. Had it all wrapped up in 10 minutes and drove to work. Thanks guys! No more squealing on start up and a proper 14.6 volts is nice again :)

On a side note I have had quite the streak of reliability lately, it is quite a fulfilling feeling being able to daily a 23 year old car this reliably. I have some really great roads to rip up and helps wake me up just as much as the morning cafe.

I promise I'll do something cool this year.

I was turning left doing about 55mph completely sideways throttle input/understeering. I think one of the modified 034 motorsports mounts taco sent me at this moment ripped apart as I heard an awful screeching belt and a loss of ABS/ALT/BRAKE I just smelled melted rubber and saw a little rubber belt fly out from under the car… I then continued to drive 7 miles home. I think you have me beat in terms of using the car all the time though….

Luckily the weird thing I always do is keep one of almost everything in the car so I had the new belt ready. I need to get myself into a house so I have somewhere real to work….

Also the engine feels like it's really only using the snubber to not fly out of the bay hahahahah!

Hahah I've owned the 200 for just over a year and a half now and I'm sure it's only been drive-able for maybe 8 months of that.

I had the same issue with the v-belt though. I was sitting at a stop light and pop. All my lights came on but I didn't realize what it was at the time, I had only had it a month or two. I drove probably 8-10 miles on battery... :hide:
I keep two belts in the car now :D

Not too much going on... fixed the belt the same day and have been since racking up the miles. Today on lunch I was able to bleed the brakes at all four corners by using a large metal pipe and my electric seats in the parking garage here. 32 minutes total by myself!

Also got 90% of the interior back together after chasing a parasitic drain that just turned out to be a faulty relay kill wire in the door (duuuuhhh) Still need to do a headliner but yeah, going to keep putting that off. It may only be an hour a day, but it seems to be helping with the little stuff it needs.

Haven't stopped, still at about 45 mins a day. The interior is now spotless (sans headliner) and the trunk is perfect too with all the OG rugs.

I have been spending some time running some wiring looming to clean things up and to try to chase away any future interference weird wiring problems.

Also since we only care about new parts I just ordered the elusive g28 sensor for 28$ (Thanks for the link nick) and also just picked up some HPR 80D Trans mounts.

Keep in mind my motor and trans are held in at this point with the rubber snubber and one good engine mount - so I cannot wait to see how much of an improvement it will be to tie together those mounting points (Read all 4)

I should probably take some pictures, we like those right?

Finally did the passenger side mount - What a pain in the ass, but what an improvement.

The trans mounts are also completely trashed so I still get some off throttle rock in the driveline, cannot wait to throw the HPR mounts in - I am excited!

It was a hugeeee difference for me. I did rear sub-frame, engine, and transmission mounts all within a month or two of each other. You feel a lot more vibration but it is quite the awesome feeling. :P

I need to do front subframe something fierce though....

:) Yeah I need to do my outer sway bar bushings, and waiting for the group t44 subframe bushes buy to kick off.

Also need to fix a broken out CV boot, but I'm going to do a cool old trick to repair the boot without removing it - I will be sharing that hood fix here.

On a side note, I just received a message with these. Taco you better keep coming up with parts, so I can keep buying everything you make.

New G28 sensor is back in…. Mother of god I forgot what it was like to not have timing pulled at the top end. We are back to ripping for sure.

Also as luck would have it, on our test drive as my light turned green a fully packed F350 with twin brodozer stacks rolled by us doing about 20mph screaming let's run it as they WOT'd through the light

Re: Magellan's 1991 Audi 200 Quattro 20v - HELP! Seized Fan?

Post by themagellan »

Ok so hopefully I can get some info before my drive home from work.

This morning I pulled into work and looked down to see the coolant temp peg the first little dot upon a little research I see that the bottom of the fan shroud is rubbing like wild I can turn the fan by hand both ways - Backwards there is 0 resistance, however if I turn it clockwise it sounds like it is scraping against the radiator. I checked but it isn't scraping in the metal.

Luckily my 80A fuse blew - but that now leave me about an 45 minutes in traffic without a cooling fan. Here are my questions

1. How hot is too hot- I see SMJ says that 120C is still 'acceptable' but I want to check so I know when I need to shut the fucker down.

2. Where can I buy that 80A fuse, is that a special part or one that FLAPS will have.

3. Is it possible to take the fan apart and repair - or should I just order one and junk the current one?

Hope you sweethearts can help me out :)

The fusible link is: N 0171253

Thread on Motorgeek about it: http://www.motorgeek.com/viewtopic.php?p=256688

It looks like it's also used as a glow plug fuse in MB and VW. Hope it's a standard fusible link and you can find one locally, otherwise worldpac resellers (carquest is one that lots of people have locally) should be able to get you one.

Good luck!

If there's resistance one way but none the other I'd say something is mechanically wrong with the actual fan? Maybe? Might want to get in there and see what its rubbing on.
