91 non-ethanol vs 93 with ethanol
91 non-ethanol vs 93 with ethanol
Been meaning to ask about the advantages, if any, of running country fair's new 91 ethanol-free gas compared to their less expensive 93 octane gas? Anybody do testing with VEMS and its ability to resist detonation? My brain tells me that the 93 would take more volume but be more knock resistant...

Run the 93. It's cheaper and has a higher octane rating.

Re: 91 non-ethanol vs 93 with ethanol
I run E0 in my small engines. I got tired of replacing carbs each season. I switched last year. So far so good...everything started right up this year.

Re: 91 non-ethanol vs 93 with ethanol
Ya funny you mention carbs and diaphragms... my mower just needed a rebuild from the ethanol stretching them out. Glad it doesn't affect the old audis in the same manner

I don't mind that so much as the corrosion in the carb bits. Bowls floats and chambers hate ethanol even worse when the parts are tiny.

That's all really weird... Ohio has been E10 since forever and I never have had to rebuild a mower or snowblower carb.

Re: 91 non-ethanol vs 93 with ethanol
PA has been E10 for a long time. I prefer E0 in everything but its hard to come by. The ethonal in the gas has a habit of collecting water. If you drain the carb at the end of the season, you are normally good to go the next year.

Re: 91 non-ethanol vs 93 with ethanol
Most of my stuff lasted 2 or 3 years the first time around, then required eeplacement every year. I treat the gas and drain everyhing fo4 storage. I also keep stuff in climate control. Its only been ome year so far, but i used the same junk replacement parts this past time as before and everything has run well so far. Only change was E0.

Small engines and especially boats are the only thing worth using rec 90 or whatever (ethanol free) in. For any car that gets normal use, the E10 will not hurt anything.

Re: 91 non-ethanol vs 93 with ethanol
From what I can ascertain, the biggest difference will be that the e10 content will change your AFR. What I've found says an E10 blend is to be set to a target value of 14.2:1.
At that point octane is octane and resistance to detonation is moar power... compensate for the ethanol and you're set to go!

Re: 91 non-ethanol vs 93 with ethanol
I personally think the biggest differences lie in the corrosiveness and especially the fact that it is hygroscopic.
