lol FAR from boring. Seeing your URQ and Bens 4kq, I've added the A6 to the family and i'll seriously be looking into probably a 90 CQ (swap in AAN) here in the next couple years. I gotta finish the Soup first.
Major inspiration to all.Re: Hanks URQ 2.6L Tall deck
You should have hustled me for a ride when I was still in Provo! I suppose I should have hustled for a supra ride. Only 1JZ I have ever been in was a 4-Runner
You should get yourself a quattro of some sort, especially if you are going ot live in Provo forever!!!

Re: Hanks URQ 2.6L Tall deck
lol well i sure hope im not in provo forever. Ya i didnt wanna be too needy for a ride, but i shoulda haha. that was the first and last time i saw you. Supra's come quite a ways since you saw it Hopefully I should have a PT6262 by this fall along with ID1000's a few other goodies and good tune should put me 500+ conservatively.
I've seen a couple guys that have put the turbo 7m in a 4runner but havent seen anybody do a 1j.
I've kinda been persuading Ben to get a MKIII supra one of these days. I still wanna get an 80's maybe EARLY 90's quattro to build.

I have a picture of the 1JZ in the four runner somewhere, infact, I think he is going to come work for me down in Vegas soon. I got a ride in a 2JZ the other day that had a 6262 in it. It was fast as snot, in a spin tires at 80mph kind of fast

Re: Hanks URQ 2.6L Tall deck
well that sounds quite promising. I was thinking running an .80ar exhaust with QSV To get me to hit boost a little quicker. Sorry for slight thread jack. YOUR CAR IS THE TOPIC HERE

Re: Hanks URQ 2.6L Tall deck
End of an era! Turns out skimping on ARP625 age hardened fasteners was a bad call. I had wanted them when I built the motor, but they were back ordered. Problem with this motor(well not really a problem) is that with the hta3582r on e85, you can run a ton of boost at relatively low rpm. My only regret was not getting this thing on the dyno. I drove the car with 540wtq at 35psi on the 2.2L, and the car was just rediculous at torque peak on the 2.6L at 42psi. If I had to guess, I would bet it was making close to 700wtq and mid to high 600s ATW. Probably torque peak at around 4600 and peak power at around 6200 with boost dropping off at around 7500 to around 550whp. All speculation.
I had sorted through some triggering issues that were plaguing high boost, and that meant I could turn up the boost a little more. I giggled the whole way home last night at 42psi, as it was enough torque to rip tires loose at 90mph in 3rd gear. This morning on my way to the shop, I got on it in 4th and just as the needle hit 42psi, hell broke loose. Windowed both sides of the blocks and scattered them on the I-215. Like Sean said, better there than at Spring Mountain in April. You don't make friends at the track dumping 4 quarts on the track.

Oh well, no sense in crying over milk on the floor. Rest of hte motor looks pretty good. Even the crank looks pretty good, including the rod that lost the bolt. The rest of the rod is still in the sump, but you can see the bolt sheared right below the 12 point head. No bluing or signs of oiling issues. No signs of detonation anywhere. The cap looks like it just came off fairly clean and then the capless rod just beat around windowing the block. The head actually was saved by a fortunate event. The valves were bent and protected the piston from beating up against the head. THey all look like this with a squirt of carb cleaner and a wipe! Looked like a well tuned engine overall!!

Oh well, 07k here we come! If you see anything in the bay that does not bolt on to an 07k related swap, send me a message.

Re: Hanks URQ 2.6L Tall deck
No way!! You did this only so you had an excuse to swap in the new 5 cylinder!
So will your car or Sean's get done first?

I think it is the 800ft/lb nutjobs you have to look out for.

Good job! Now you have a good reason for an 07K

Re: Hanks URQ 2.6L Tall deck
i think you did that on purpose.......
Re: Hanks URQ 2.6L Tall deck
Yes and no. I actually called to set up the dyno last night expecting to see what it could do at 42psi. I even asked my Dad last night what day he was working this week so I could have him down there for company. I knew it was making wicked power, but I was hoping to sell or transplant the tall deck into the Lago, or have it fund the built motor for the URQ.

Would have been great to see the numbers but oh well.
How soon will it be back on the road?

Re: Hanks URQ 2.6L Tall deck
I want to shake down at Spring Mountain on April 14th. Might throw a stock engine in there to work out kinks while I build a bottom end. At 500$ a motor, why not?
Re: Hanks URQ 2.6L Tall deck
WOW Hank, in a way this makes me kinda sad. I always loved the way your 2.6 looked in that engine bay. Regardless, I am sure your going to make the 07K an absolute animal! I just hope it's ready for BBQ!!!!

more motivation for the oil pan!

Your enthusiasm is encouraging Hank, a lesser person would probably have thrown in the towel by now but you just keep going! I feel really fortunate to have experienced that thing, once in the driver seat and another in the passenger side spinning around and around
Never have I (or probably will) ever witnessed that level of power. Can't wait to see the next phase!
