WG spring ID help!

Post by DE80q »

So, I have this WG spring, and really dont know what it is. It was sent to me with a couple other known spring, but this doesnt seem to match any other spring I have looked at. Its hard to tell from the pic, but there are actually 3 lines of the green paint down the spring. Othere than that, it is just raw metal.

the spring is 3 3/32" long, 1 9/16" OD, and 1 3/8" ID. that is all I can tell you about it. I dont know if this is a stock spring, or some random other spring. I can say that it is longer than the 2 1.8bar springs, that I had, but it doesnt feel quite as stiff.

Thanks for any help.

Thats a 1.9 bar spring. the yellow paint marks indicate that. it should be a little shorter than a stock AAN wastegate spring and bit stiffer.
yellow paint marks indicate 1.9bar and red ones indicate 2.2bar.

here's my spring collection for reference.

Interesting, I had found a post on MG that said it should be a stock 20v spring. Hmm... I guess I will just put it in and find out.

you can see the yellow paint in this picture better. i run the 1.9 bar in my S6 and the gate doesnt open till around 12psi vs the stock spring that would open at like 6psi. you can take an air compressor, air pressure regulator, spare wastegate if you have one and build a rig to see what boost the valve starts opening at. thats how i tested all of mine.

Interesting, now I kind of wish I would have kept the cap to my spare WG. Honestly, I never even thought of building a test rig. Might have to pickup another just to do so haha.

Here's a nice test rig: http://www.theprojectpad.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1322

Comes with a wastegate and a bunch of other stuff.

Believe me, if I had the extra funds, I would own that. I talked with John about the CSR in great detail when he bought my intake manifold. Other than a burnt exhaust valve, it is a very well sorted car.
