Magellan's 1991 Audi 200 Quattro 20v - B9 Sq5 in the Stable
Re: Magellan's 1991 Audi 200 Quattro 20v -HPR Trans Mounts +
Even just doing coilovers transforms these cars from a funky floater to feeling like a sports car!
Glad you're enjoying your suspension setup now that you've got the re-valve and shortening finished Nick. I bet it feels tons better.

Good read... I just embarked on my own t44 project. I've been pretty hot over these cars a while... Pretty exciting stuff. Thanks for all the posts/info/whatnot

Thanks friend! I realize I need to update a lot of the broken pictures and links (Cough wheres our TPP hosting) cough.
Probably the best car "scene" following I have ever been involved with in terms of owner base. But I'm a little biased and have always had a soft spot for unique people and things, enjoy your Avant! You have one of the nicest remaining examples in the entire USA.

That about sums it up
I too am a bit biased though! I need to do a full suspension refresh. My 200 is feeling super vague and boat-ish even with the coilovers but I also have not replaced/upgraded any mounts/bushings for the suspension so...yea.

No big write up at the moment though there is a lot to do on the car at the moment before a long journey, however I did receive a gift of (3) euro headlights from a very special lady.

Hibernation.

Hopefully i'll have a very long post sometime soon.

You are gonna love those headlights! One of the best upgrades I've done for my car. Plus then our cars can still be twins.

I can't believe I never put them on my sedan. I guess I was just living dangerously... that, or maybe I just needed turbo money more than headlights

Just remove the headlights altogether; the glow from your header will probably outperform them anyways!

Long list of To Do without much To Do completed other than that I trailered the car 800 miles to it's new home, and started it for the first time in a very long time, and took a hill billy video to share with you all.

I'll be posting a lot more as things actually progress, I hope it'll be a fun spring for us all, as I have been absolutely dying to use the car and can finally put a few shillings towards all of the ideas and plans. Hope to see a bunch of you out for the meetings this year and put some faces to names.

Fixed the Radiator Fan
Washed it
Started it
Made some realistic plans for it!
All seems good, haven't got to use it this summer but in a weird way i'm kind of glad to keep the miles under 120,000 going into 2016.

@The Magellan
@20vAvant
I was given my 1991 Audi 200 Quattro 20v from my Uncle who only used it to go to the grocery store once a month for the last 24 years. He told me when the temperature changes from hot to cold I have to get the Alternator belt manually tension-ed when I hear it start to squeal. So the first time it started squealing I ended up driving on it too long before it broke. I went in and had another put on, and within a few weeks it was squealing again. I went in and had it manually tension-ed to stop that. Now the 2nd one broke, and the shop I use told me that there's nothing I can do, I have to keep replacing the belt, and getting it tension-ed all the time.
Why does this happen? And how can I permanently fix this issue? Do I need to buy a different belt? Ive even heard there's some kind of spray to put on the belt to help.

themagellan wrote:I lost an alternator belt on the drive home, but even with the top bolt loose and the star bolt loose and out it will not move even with a massive BFH I looked at the bentley and it appears to say the same- Am I just totally missing something here? I really, really was swinging on it and even used a lot of leverage. The tension bars are also loose.
themagellan wrote:I woke up at 6am this morning and found the other incredibly inaccessible bolt. Had it all wrapped up in 10 minutes and drove to work. Thanks guys! No more squealing on start up and a proper 14.6 volts is nice again
20VAvant wrote:I had the same issue with the v-belt though. I was sitting at a stop light and pop. All my lights came on but I didn't realize what it was at the time, I had only had it a month or two. I drove probably 8-10 miles on battery...
I keep two belts in the car now

That shop is stupid. The belt is breaking for a reason. Either the accessory it is connected to is starting to fail or the belt is somehow misaligned or tensioned improperly.

Thanks for the reply. Its weird, they usually are great at diagnosing Audi's, and they usually dont even charge me for fixing things.I guess I went in on a day when they didnt feel like working.
This thread had a few great ideas

And this video in the thread also helped me get an idea of what may be happening

A funny way that I fixed mine:
Take a 300grit piece of sandpaper and clean the entire pulley
Get a bar of "Laundry" Soap
When you install the belt make sure you are tightening all the bolts (Wish washers) or it will back out in 100 miles.

Well, the interior is a bit disheveled .... And OB gave me tons of shit for the state the car is in but I've been enjoying it! It runs really well after all the time I spent with it the past week so that's that.
Since Ob made me feel so bad I decided to do this and everything is now functional ! (For the record I didnt add more material. I've been working on lots of embedded devices and felt too cool so... I just repaired using the existing material and it worked great.
