Pats 1995.5 URS6 Avant - Green/Ecru
Have always wanted an avant for a daily driver, found this 1995.5 Avant locally. I found a few other URS cars but this one was local and rust free, so although this isn't my favorite color combo, I decided to go with this one rather than deal with the hassle and rust potential of getting one elsewhere in the country.
Its a clean carfax, been a PNW car its whole life, Oregon for 18 yrs then WA. 272k on the clock now. It's been very well maintained and comes with a ton of service records. The only issue with it is that the clearcoat on the roof and hood has failed, an intermittent misfire.
Current mods are:
MRC Stage 2 chip (runs 22psi)
T&M Front mount Intercooler
Samco Silicone Hoses
Porsche Big Brake kit (Boxter S calipers and A8 rotors) - recently completely rebuilt
H&R Springs and Bilstein Sport Shocks
High Strength Rear Sway Bar with heim joints
Marsh Boost Gauge (in the glove box for now)
17x8 OZ Supperleggerra Wheels
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Maintenance Log
4/1/2015 - Replaced coils
4/2/2015 - New coolant temp sender,
4/2/2015 - New NGK BKR7E spark plugs
4/3/2015 - New fuel filter

Sounds like a good.starting point! Maintained rust and accident free UrS cars are becoming harder to find, especially in avant form.

First owner was very particular about garaging the car but the last owner not so much.. It's been parked under trees for the past couple years, needs a pressure washing and real good detail.

They are pretty sweet!
So, first order of business,
The car has a misfire that comes and goes, when it is misfiring it's only firing on all cylinders at a cruise, but light, moderate or heavy throttle it starts to misfire on one cylinder. Don't know which one yet.
Going to start with changing the fuel filter, and spark plugs, and taking a look at the coil packs. May swap in the LS2 coils from my coupe since the engine is still at the machine shop and im waiting on parts.

Wow, nice score. Agreed on the colour combo but the green on black with carbon could be really nice.
Going to follow your updates and live vicariously, as I was this_close to buying an avant before I settled on the beater I picked up instead.

I'd bet at least $3 the miss is ignition. Swap.the LS coils on and see.

I was really excited to find the wagon. The ecru is in really nice shape but if I can ever find a reasonable way to swap in a black interior thats nice I will pursue it. For the purpose of this car has it doesn't matter a whole lot I guess.

As soon as I can get some spare time from work I am going to steal those coils for now and see if that fixes it. I posted my spare ecu and some stuff in the classifieds, will see if I can get some extra money to get a set of the LS coils for the wagon too if that's the fix.
I've had and driven the car for 4 days now and it's had a misfire to and from work one day, and for half of the next then it went away again.
Funny thing is the PO said he never had a single problem with the car until the day after he posted it for sale and then the misfire started.

Re: Pats 1995.5 URS6 Avant - Green/Ecru
Anyone know... how would the Motronic ECU respond to swapping in larger than stock injectors, like RS2's? Would it be able to take the feedback and adjust the duty cycle for those?
Or do i just need to man up soon and get VEMS for this too.

Not a good idea. But Marc can get you a tune for the stock motronic

Possibly a slight chance the miss is coming from a bad coolant temp sensor at the back of the head. Cheap fix, easy to test.

10-4. I dont want to really throw any money at any tunes other than just doing VEMS someday soon. Im trying really hard to convince myself to leave all my good parts on my coupe project

Ok, Will take a look at that too. Looks like I can test that with a multimeter.

Re: Pats 1995.5 URS6 Avant - Green/Ecru
When I told my friend Tim (fellow S6 Avant owner) I was looking at this, he mentioned that the front bumper would be hard to find. How expensive is one to be had?
Re: Pats 1995.5 URS6 Avant - Green/Ecru
Expect to pay ~800-1000 for one that is crack free or repaired (properly) and ready for paint.

Re: Pats 1995.5 URS6 Avant - Green/Ecru
The car came with this Marsh boost gauge. It's actually cool that it reads kPa, but I need to get one mounted somewhere I can watch it.

Re: Pats 1995.5 URS6 Avant - Green/Ecru
Interior looks nice, and I bet the engine bay will clean up nicely too.
Definitely keep the kpa boost gauge of you can, it'll save you from having to convert from psi to kpa all the time while tuning!
Definitely go vems of you are leaning that way. Well worth it for reliability (no more maf) , cost, and tuning potential of course.
