Fuel Tank Fittings to AN

Anyone running an "AN" fuel system from the OEM tank?

I've decided I want to run fuel/brakes all AN on the rally car to try and spare some of my future sanity... That means converting all the OEM parts to AN.

The Fuel Supply line out of the tank is sort of a strange one. Here's a distant shot:



The line on the left is the supply, right is return. On the supply, that's a black hard plastic hose that feeds into the large silver fitting. If you take that fitting off, the black plastic hose ends in a flare (no pictures, will update soon) and the silver piece is like a tube nut that forces the whole thing together. (needs pics, i know)

I want to get to AN as quickly and painlessly as possible. The threads are almost certainly 14mm x 1.5

So to me, it seems like there should be a Female M14 x 1.5 to Male AN Adapter and I just cannot find it.

I ordered this to try but getting it in the mail yesterday made me very doubtful that will work. Not sure what the "O-ring" means - like if that's for a specific type of standard?

I believe summit has a banjo fitting for the feed line from the pump. It's the 14.5X-6 an. Not sure what the return line is. But if memory serves you are allowed like 6" of rubber line for NHRA competition standard so possibly a -6AN line to barbed fitting could be used? I know it's not ideal but it could simplify things a bit. I think the banjo bolt was for a Honda or Accra fuel pump and was also made by Russel.

That means it doesn't seal on a flare. If it's made for GM, then it is supposed to seal on an internal flange with an O-ring in it, like so:



although I THOUGHT that all GM with this setup were SAE thread. Never paid much attention though.

Do you actually know what the tank end looks like? Because I've a feeling that it's actually an O-ring fitting in there like the GM.

Can't help on the return like, although from what I have seen, they are pretty lax on the rubber hose rule. If it was OE they tend to let it slide, but if you have 24 feet of rubber hose going to the tank then they will tell you to cut that shit out Lots of my GN customers race with NHRA and there's miles of rubber hose on their cars, as produced by General Motors.

interesting. That makes sense based on what the fittings looked like. I didn't open it and it'll probably be going back to JEGS then.

Here's a good shot of what the fittings look like. obviously the barbed fitting is the return line.



My phone died before I could take a picture of the plastic flare fitting that was on the supply line but if you can imagine a black plastic hard line with like a brass flared tip, that's it. There were no o-rings involved that I saw.

Laying under the car for a while and pondering, I think I'll go this route:

If you look in the picture above, in the top right corner there is a hole in the rubber grommet there used to to provide access for the vapor line to go up to the overflow tank. I think what i'll do is punch out two more holes for the supply/return lines. This will come out right behind the rear seats if I punch out some access holes. A couple of grommets later, I should have clean access to the ports on the bottom of the tank meaning none of my fuel lines are under the car. I'll self-tap a little aluminum shield over these fittings, give it a hole for drainage and call it a day. I'll use NiCop with a flared end on the supply, and oem hose for the return. I'll then convert to AN right as soon as the lines come up behind the seats... stay tuned.

Yeah that's an idea too. This will likely be my backup. Aside from coloring, I'd like there to be 0 confusion if there needs to be quick and dirty work done on the fly during a service. Having a hardline and a soft line will make it sort of idiot proof.

Regarding the adapters, they make all sorts of Male to male conversions... but the fitting out of the tank is male, so I would need a female to male/female... or find like a female to male M14x1.5 which also haven't had much luck with....

Appears perfect... but wasn't in my case... needed to further mod stuff

I had to cut it down quite a bit for a proper seal

Interesting, I'll be sure to watch for a proper seat... the piece you're working on seems to be very shallow, I think the tank will have a little more room. I have to put in a big order with 034 for various little things so I may not get to this right away. I'll update when possible.

That fitting comes in two parts and the way you have it cut it won't seal it correctly. Make sure you have the small nipped that you insert inside of that fitting. You can check my tread above

I like the Pegasus adapters much better than the 034 for the fuel rail. Used one on my CGT and it works great.

Would the fitting from pegasus work on the fuel tank feed line? I found a thread on mg from 2005 in which Javad said aluminum fittings will seal from 37 to 45 degrees, but this fitting from pegasus is steel. Has anyone tried it to see if it seals?
