Julian's '91 200 20vt
Re: Julian's '91 200 20vt
Oil feed doesn't seem blocked by silicone but it's not getting any oil. Cranked for 30 seconds I think from 2 attempts. Gonna try again with only a clear line on the outlet. WTH.
Of course I had it draining oil for almost a month. I did fill the oil filter before installing also.

Re: Julian's '91 200 20vt
Pulling the plugs while cranking is not a bad idea, if only for your starter and battery's sake.
It can take a while for the thing to get primed. I have never checked them when priming honestly. I just crank for about 30 seconds and let 'er rip after that.
What is the last picture you posted of? It looks like the turbo is wet.
Also, I would have responded a few posts ago, but none of it made sense because the pictures weren't loading for me. Makes sense now! I like that you are going to use the stock "Y" pipe. Looks good so far. What did you end up using for the -12 drain line? (hose length and all fittings)
Also, what did you decide on for the feed in the end? Did you put some kind of o-ring or crush washer on it?

Re: Julian's '91 200 20vt
The wetness is hard to explain. Lots of oil from assembly came out the compressor side while sitting for 2 weeks with it filled with oil and set down on that side for storage/soaking.
I used the vibrant 1/2 npt to 12 AN hose ends with some black nylon braided hose from ebay. Sorry can't say on length. I eyeballs it and it's feckin PERFECT lol. Couldn't believe it only took one try. It was awful trying to thread the npt fitting into the turbo drain flange with the turbo installe. Never again thanks. Went with an Al crush washer.
I think the oil got on the feed fitting when I pUT the rubber cap over it to protect it from that crazy ass C clamp compressor side everytime I didn't get it in the dam groove. On one try a piece of mech wire flew and hit the washer fluid line so hard from recoil that it blew the line apart! Awesome! Felt like a 3 year old laughing at it.
I'm certain that was all I was seeing.
Thanks for all the help Chris and everyone. Already got the new tune loaded for spring pressure driving and ignition timing.
My next obstacle is finding an air filer

I am definitely getting oil to turbo now. Oil was coming through the crush washer somehow. Had that suckered cranked on too. Changed out for viton oring. Will see soon how it holds up. No other leaks or SMOKE!

Drive the car until up to temp today and went home to find that some oil was running down the chra from the feed line fittings. Ditched the oring for a brand new copper washer and cranked both fittings down damn hard. Don't ever need a lack of oil to the turb again! Whether it's a test drive or a hard beating.
Goes in to welder on wednesday. I wish I was welding the whole thing but I'm leaving the y pipe, and sleave I bought, unwelded in the event that it helps them fit everything together in the end.

So dome of you may notice I have this hanging off the turbo and nothing else. It also has the o2 sensor in it. Driving yesterday, would the exhaust pulse be able to pull pure oxygen back in towards the sensor at idle causing my lambda to read full lean in vems? Car ran great despite this. Could see lambda dip to normal when on go pedal as well or revving.

Could easily be lean because it's breathing much better with the bigger turbine and no exhaust.

Re: Julian's '91 200 20vt
I grabbed the car away from the slow welder since he omitted info that he'd be down 2 mechanics over the next week so my DP would take forever to even get to. I took it to a pro being laid off from GE out here who will have it done by the weekend. No mandrel bending either. All angular cutting/splicing
He will tie the WG exit back in as well.
I'm getting sick of the feed line leaking. It's a steel to steel mating surface right at the top of the turbo that's leaking in the AN fittings. If I remove the feed line and reverse it I'll have aluminum fittings on one side of each fitting so it theoretically should leak anymore. Thing is I don't want to pull the line and flip it, tighten down, only to find that the aluminum fittings will be ruined from using different fittings on the already-once-tightened fittings :( I'm afraid that the end of the feed line that was steel-to-steel may be chewed up now. Guess I'll eye it up when I get the car back.
Do I have a legit worry here??

Re: Julian's '91 200 20vt
Ya but I kinda get that it's happening since they're steel fittings, not aluminum. Where it seals to an aluminum elbow out the filter flange, there's no leak probably because the other fitting is Al.
