Re: 95 A6 manual transmission?
that year a6 used the 01a for the manual
Think it was funky gear ratios too like the other v6's

The 01A is not that weak. What do you plan? 500wheel?audios wrote:nope its a quattro manual, was hoping for an 01e or 016 not the weak 01a....

Re: 95 A6 manual transmission?
i have a volvo turbo on my cq around 280-300whp, beating that tranny as hard as i can (wanna upgrade to 01E) but nothing
Re: 95 A6 manual transmission?
You must just be unlucky, because they are not THAT weak. Myself and a few friends have abused them behind 20vt's at various stages of tune and really only broken a few. I had one survive 20,000 miles behind a 20vt that trapped 124mph.DE80q wrote:ChrisAudi80 wrote:The 01A is not that weak. I'm only running a 20vt at 18psi now. The first one broke with the factory NG engine, the second one broke with less than 2k miles at less than 12psi. The 01A is plenty weak.
I dont think yours were failing with a stock NG because of power.
An 01a will handle 250-300whp and moderate abuse if its in good condition otherwise.

Re: 95 A6 manual transmission?
Tom's car also comes to mind, not because it made any insane amount of power, but because of how relentlessly it was beaten on. Given, that was only a 1.8t, but still, nobody can break things like Tom can and I don't think he ever even broke one.dana wrote:You must just be unlucky, because they are not THAT weak. Re: 95 A6 manual transmission?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the more modern 01A that came behind 1.8t were a bit stronger (compared to, say, the Cq 01A), and had better gear ratios... no?

Re: 95 A6 manual transmission?
The 01A transmission seems to be one of those items that is hit or miss. Some people, like Dana, have had very good luck with them. Others, such as myself, have had horrible luck with them. My first one had a synchro catastrophicley fail, and the brass pieces got lodged between the front diff gears punching out the front of the case. The second one had the input shaft decide to walk into the transmission chewing everything up along the way. The one I have now has lasted the longest, with the most abuse. I have a feeling the spec stage3 clutch I'm running isn't helping things. It's more of an on/off switch.
