Question for the people with K24-7400 swaps

Post by Noisy Cricket »

Is the turbo ridiculously high-pitched compared to other units?

I thought I was hearing an electric air pump at first. Nope, that's the turbo spinning up. It sounds about an octave higher than the teeny tiny TD04 in my soon-to-be-ex-Volvo.

Mine only gives a quick whistle when it spools, and then is more of just a whoosh.
It has an 11 blade billet wheel though, so YMMV

I know when I installed mine I had a really large whistle too, never thought much about it until I installed my 11 blade billet wheel. That's when I saw that one of the old Wastegate mounting holes is straight through into the compressor discharge and not a blind hole lol my bad. I think it was a m6 bolt, just cut one to fit and not restrict the airflow.
Something to look into anyways.

It works fine (actually this car is stupid for me, it just GOES and feels like a video game) but the turbo is almost completely inaudible except on cold start, when it spins up because of the high idle and I think Volvo is doing some really wonky things with cam timing and ignition retard because it gets the worst fuel economy I have ever seen when it is cold, and one of my other cars literally throws half of its fuel down the exhaust pipe unburnt at low speed.
