1990 4cyl20v 90q...DYNO 648hp 508tq

Post by Mcstiff »

I have been under the assumption that the I5 20v was a 16v with an extra cyl. Are the heads really that different?

they are the same, but the 16v is much more plentiful and thus cheaper.

You are correct in your assumption.

Price out a 16v vs a 20vt motor for building up. I can get a 9a motor for damn near free, then promptly hit up vwvortex for a pile of aftermarket parts.

I'd be stuck paying a fortune to build up a 20vt I5 when compared to a 16vt

I guess you are talking building a 7a for >~350whp. Otherwise I don't see what parts are expensive. From what I can tell the 7a and 9a pistons are the same.

I'd go further but this it getting OT.

a good friend of mine, the kid who did all the welding for this project, has a built 16v in a mk2 with a precision 6262 t3 on tec3 and an sqs trans. should make some power that as well soon here.

Granted the dyno could be different, but 600whp is about when I started to get a majority of the newer liter bikes. My only loss was to a new piped and ECUed 1000gsxr. He was a couple of lengths to 130 faster than I was. An extra 48whp on top of aerodynamics that aren't similar to a brick should help a bit!!!! Impressive torque as well!

Not quite... assuming zero deck height when assembled, the 7a pistons are about 3.2mm taller than the 9a, due to the 9a's 92.8mm stroke vs 86.4mm for the 7a. The 1.8 Pistons are identical in terms of height, but have the smaller 81mm bore.

I was referring to strength (cast).

im hoping my weight helps too. once i get new tires on the front and a proper alignment, im going to finally put the car on corner scales and see what it weighs.

got to run my buddies gsxr 1000 today, up a nice hill at lol. only ran 34psi, noticed later on in the logs that the egt sensor for the ecu was getting a choppy signal and thus limiting the boost controller duty cycle, no biggie we can go again. from a dig next time too. enjoy.
