Just saw this... and yes I've had a number of them machined at the race shop I worked at, still have questions?

hey thanks for the advice offer but i actually just ended up scotch brighting that flywheel surface and it cleaned up fine, didnt find any cracks or scores in the surface. the clutch plates i just sandblasted the pads and put it all back together.
for future reference, i assume if you were to have to resurface the flywheel on that twin disc setup, youd also have to get the pressure plate "legs" machined as well so that the clutch stack remains the same height overall (?)

You have the right idea but what we did (and it's what Tilton/AP recommends) is maintain the "step" height between the friction ring and the flywheel... the spec is around .097"-.100" (depends on the manufacturer). So if it started at .100" and you machined .020" off the friction ring, you'd also take .020" off the flywheel to give you the same step you started with.
The other measurement that's important is disc thickness, again different manufacturers have different specs but usually you're given a total wear allowance which you divide by the number of discs and that gives you the allowable wear per disc. We'd generally measure the discs when new and paint pen the thickness/date on the center so when we next disassembled it we knew how much it had worn and how fast it was wearing. Manufacturers generally publish the "new" thickness of the discs so if you haven't measured it before using it, the info is available.
Re: 600+whp 4cyl20v90Q...engine bay near complete
cool info! thanks man, ill definitely jot that down somewhere for future reference. hopefully ill never have to take that clutch apart again, lol. but you never know.

Did you check surface for warping??? Was it slipping?? If it is straight it be looking like properly seated clutch to me , and another Q were is the pilot bearing??
Re: 600+whp 4cyl20v90Q...engine bay near complete
pilot bearing was destroyed. im not sure if it was due to improper installation (didnt use enough grease to press it in there...and by not enough i mean i didnt use any) or if it was due to heat from the slippage, or just straight up power. all have been opinions that i have been given when i asked people as to why that happens, in the end, it happened. pain in the ass to just get the outter sleeve from the pilot bearing out of there.
didnt seem to be warped, checked it with a straight edge. the clutch held the power all summer just fine last year, didnt slip at all until the last track pass in the fall...which was probably due to me not using the staging brake properly. few days later i blasted it up a hill in third gear from 3,500ish to redline and the clutch held just fine. hopefully itll be ok once im all back together this year, we shall see.
getting closer.

if some shortened version of cream pie express, fit on a NYS plate...i may consider it.
