the only thing that matters that is really any different back there is the depth of the storage box unde the floor, and the 20v is deeper than a 20v. so going 20v -> 20v with the hitch should just have more clearance between it.

Depth, depth... what do you mean? are the spots where they bolt into on the 20v the same? Cause the 20vt Hitch is going on the 20vt.

Actually we pulled a hitch off a 20v Avant and put it directly onto a 20v sedan last year, no difference in the way they mount.. The 20v has a deeper tub for the full-size spare to fit into, but it has no effect on the hitch mounting, which mounts on the frame rails and/or through the trunk floor, depending on your model of hitch.

I have a set of Yakima towers for the 4000's that I don't see myself using again.....offers???

You have a pm :D

As for you loxx, I'd say 350hp would be a ball in your car! Somday for me! :D

Ahhh

third VEMS box went in the car today. Car started up beautifully and then after some quick tweaks we had a moment of bliss.

Second gear...10psi, 15psi, 17psi...FUEL CUT!! KAPOW!!!

lol

car felt awesome.

Then went to dial in the boost settings and started to get it to where it should be, then I couldn't get it to hold boost.

Didn't hear any (open) wastegate noise so I am guessing it sprung a pretty bad boost leak somewhere. I tried looking for a while, but I'll just wait to fix that until I get home on tuesday for Thanksgiving.

This makes me want to hold off plans for the holset until I can get a legit IC setup going.

Fuel cut? on a VEMS unit?

Posted: Fri Nov 20, 2009 8:23 pm
by loxxrider
yes sir wanna see a log?

It cuts fuel over a specified boost level so really I should call it boost cut.

I would think you would wana cut spark, not fuel... well both actually, but fuel a split second after spark to not run lean or pump raw fuel.

but you cnat really do that on a dist ignition. you dont really just cut spark, you drop them to the wrong cylinders IIRC.

Did you program that in for 17psi? Or was it default..

its not dizzy anymore ;)

and VEMS give you the option of "fuel cut above kpa"

mine is set at 226 kpa or 18 psi...I set it at that.

In the log it crept up to about 18.9 after fuel cut kicked in. Then of course I let off the throttle :D

Why do you limit yourself to 18psi LOL

haha I dunno!

It still hasn't even been tuned yet (and I'm a safe better). I'd just rather have it max at like 16 psi and see how afr and such is and then move the limit up in slow increments just so I dont run out of fuel or something.

That being said, this is a kickass base tune from Kevin. I have to hand it to him!

The timing is super conservative though. I was actually curious as to how much timing people generally put in these motors. I think its got a lot of power to make in timing alone.

Just read the whole thread what a ride, bit unfair too call it 3rd VEMS box as it was actually 2 Lugtronics boxes and it reflects badly on the ECU when it was actually the supplier.

Well done Marc! just goes to show price isn't everything buy from a source that can actually support the hardware and setup.

Whoa whoa, its been VEMS all along.

I might have worded it wrong and called it lugtronic, but its been VEMS the whole time. Sorry for the confusion!

Thanks for reading the thread :) I like to be able to share the info for anyone that needs it or just wants to follow.

Marc definitely deserves credit for figuring everything out. For the record, it ended up being completely because of the IGBT coils that I was running on a "plug and play" VEMS box.

If anyone is thinking of going this route DO NOT run IGBT coils.

Thought I'd share a few thoughts while I'm at it.

Fixxfest was AWESOME today. There were so many great cars there. I'll be making a thread to show you guys what you missed ;)

The best part about it all was how much love the Audi was getting...

I had lots of people come up and talk to me about it and how they had an audi 5000, 200, or whatever the case lol. I decided to hit the launch control once or twice (dont worry marc, it was done manually thru the megatune...not from the switch), and it drew a huge crowd :D

I had a few people trying to trade me their cars. One was a mint MKII jetta with a turbo 8v. Also a MKIII VRT. Very tempting offers, but I would never.

Then Andy (hypothetical) and I started talking about a few things. For one thing, we decided that oil lines and stuff need to be done quick, dirty, and cheap. They wont be staying on forever, so 30 bux will get 'er done :D

Then we gotta do a v-band off of the Holset and just weld a v-band on some steel right up to the intercooler. Again, quick and dirty.

That would basically get me on the road with the Holset on the car.

The more interesting part deals with air to water intercoolers...An AWIC would be MUCH easier to fit in this car for the final build. The heat exchanger would be essentially the size of the stock IC. The piping would be ridiculously short too.

Will report more details when we get them ironed out.

What coils do you run? I've been tossing around the idea of upgrading, but my stock aan coils have been doing a great job, not an issue at 25psi, making 360whp. Any recommendation? I too am running vems in my urs4, just want to know what compatible?

I run the LS2 coils from the GTO, etc.

I'm not sure how much your AAN coils are good for, but if you do end up upgrading there are LOTS of options.

Technically any coil is compatible if its TTL. All I know for sure is that any of the LSx coils will work. LS1, LS2, etc. as long as you get a proper harness.

I went with the LS2's because its what Marc had available. I hope they are capable of 6-800whp. A good friend of mine said he has seen them make upwards of 200hp per cylinder, so that makes me feel pretty good about them. They are powerful, cheap, and readily available.

Ok, so your using efiexpress' coil setup. He has a plug and play one for the aan available. I'll just get those.

Woooo

car is running like NEVER before.

For one, I fixed my boost leak (again). Before I do the holset I guess I need that MM hose from 034 for $80 :(

Anyway, when it doesn't leak, the car shoots for 17psi but sometimes spikes to 20 in its excitement (boost cut). Its nice in the warm weather, but as the temp dips down into the 50's and 60's the car becomes a whole different animal.

I had so much fun driving the car today. Its a combination of the brakes, suspension, and almost instant power out of the corners. Its just wonderful. The damn thing spools so brutally around 3k RPMs and just goes like hell. Still on a base tune but the logs look great :)
