It is a shocker, but mums the word. The funny thing is Hank swore me to secrecy and told me not to tell you cause he wanted to show up in Vegas with the new color. LOL

Tornado red

Norago blue.

Not in any order of course......I do like red though, and that lighter metallic blue color

Cheers,

Craig.

Can we wait a couple of weekends? If I don't get Her Urq running by then, I probably don't want to be in town. Red oxide primer. Kinda the flat black look but in red.

exactly... maybe rattle can some shark teeth on the front, no bumper with a massive oil cooler ziptied to the front :) Discovery could do a show "sin city turbo". We would all have to get lots of tatoo's though

Hey just a second here Scott. How come you don't have your 7A out of the coupe trying to frantically put a built 20t in it in time for the Vegas GTG?

With my painter gone fishing :wtf: , I decided I did not have time to just take a night off.

I got the 01e I had put aside to use. I also have one that i use for manufacturing other parts, which was really nice for mock up on the linkage.. Excuse the CV boot explosion that happened just a few days before the trans went. Normally I would pressure wash that crap before working on it, but I did not want oil or grease any where CLOSE to the car. So it will have to stay dirty for a while longer

Image

Image

I then took out the old 016 torsen unit and slid in the new trans. I had to do a few things to the flywheel to make it work wit hthe new setup, as I had modified the 7a flywheel to work with 016 trans with a 200 20vt clutch kit. THis required cutting away the pilot bearing provision. IT worked great, but i needed it for the new box. I welded on a billet piece that was close, and then lathed it down so nobody would know the better :) I slide the motor back the 15mm, and loved the new found room in the front of the car. I slotted the motormounts and transmounts to soak up the shorter 01e length. I can't wait to make a new IC post las vegas

Image
Image

This is what I ended up with for the linkage. I started off with a 016 URQ linkage and a URs4 linkage. I stole the shifter arm from the s4 and cut it down to allow the pivot ball from the 016 to be welded on. Here is a picture of it tacked. I messed around with that, along with the linkage for a good 5-6 hours. My index fingers are sore from twisting off the heim joint cross over bar over 3 dozen times to take it to the jig setup. In the end, I ended up with something that didnt require the tunnel to be modified, and works well.

Image

On the shifter box, I really wanted to retain the lockout with 1st so close to Reverse now. I took the base of hte URQ, shopped all but the base and about 3/8ths above that on, so I could raise the urS4 base by welding it on top. This put the lockout in the perfect place, and makes it feel great. I had the 034 short shifter on there as well before, and it just needed to have the lockout flipped around to work on the 01e location. Along with the arm being shortened on the gear selector shaft and hte short shifter, the throw is very short.

Next was the axles. Martin had done a bit of homework for me, so I knew a little of what I was getting myself into. Here are the set from the URQ, and the passenger front and drivers rear look to be the same shaft. THe ywill work with spacers. I bought some material to make myself some spacers, and reward Martin for his hard work!!!

Image

I found Martin's notes to be accurate and perfect. The drivers will need around 25mm, and the passenger will need about 10mm spacers to work. My wife came home from Europe before I could put them on the lathe, but this will finish the swap on monday, and then I am back on paint!!!!!
