Good work Hank.

I hope someone would be able to compile a comprehensive list of parts as well as instructions for the 01E swap. Hank, you took notes right? :slap:

The O1E is that much skinnier at the waist flange to flange than a 016??? 25mm and 10mm respectively, strange Audi would make a change like that, but it would certainly help with the drive line angles a little not much though... :wtf:

Do I see factory provisions for a oil cooler at top right of the trans just behind the final drive housing passenger side? :wtf:

Looks amazing Hank.

Those mounts look brilliant.....man you sure can weld.

As for the linkage, brilliant........between you and Martin, you guys
have this 01E tpye 85 problem beaten. No more floor modifying!!!

Can't wait to see the finished product.

Cheers,

Craig

Nice build, hope the 01e does the job. what trans code?

thinking of stealing your tranny mount design if you don't mind.;)

Hank, looks good. I tried to call you back last night, but got no answer. I guess with Katie back in town you were busy. Are you going to start sleeping at home again instead of at the shop? How are you going to get anything done if that is the case?

So you must have finely figured out reverse and the lockout? What is David's schedule as far as work and Audis this week? Are you guys going to be able to find some time to paint in the next couple of days? It's sad when you're project with all that you have taken on, is looking like more of a sure bet than mine. I'm getting a bit worried, but figure it will come together. Again nice work and like was mentioned above the mounts looks great. You don't mind if I copy your design also do you? I figure that when you make me a set they will be just like yours. :D

This may be a moot question but does the mechanical speedo gear from the UrQ fit into the 01E?

Thanks guys. I may or may not have made a dozen sets ofthe mounts :)

Aaron is right on the detent plugs that help the shifter go back to center. I know this because my shifter has a hard time returning from the left. Jhm sells up rated ones that help this out. By the looks of it? They have just drilled the rear out and put a stiffer sprng and cap on. I'll probably experiment with this a bit.

Also note that dropping the pivot point on the shifter arm is what kept the rod from hitting the tunnel. I originally put it on just like the urs4 has but that pivot is located further inboard then the stock 016 pickup for the arm. By dropping it and shifting it out, I was able to mimick the stock location and figment better.

The speedo for the urq can be used if one. Takes off the cover and has the threads machined in. I won't as I don't want anything t do with the cable drive. My approach will be using the electronic 5000 cluster with the 01e sensor that is identical to the o1e if they are both torsen units.

Also note that the slave I am using is the same as the 200 20vt
I hope this thread can help others with their swaps. Perhaps a some point I'll make a sticky.

this one is a cbl 5 speed from an s6. I have a edu in the wing should the narrow first not hold up to the lightweight car. It has a buggered hub but I should be able to make a good wide 6 speed out of the two

Did you have to weld/cut anything? I didn't. Simply sandwitched the bottom of the 016 (where the bushing is) and top portion of the 01E. You end up with two pieces of sheetmetal on the four mounting bolts on the floor, but that effects nothing.

Martin , is that the full s6 two piece portion? I had that bottom portion as well but did not. See how the front portion would bolt up. My solution did require a cut and weld bt it was minimal. I also cut those mounting ears off used for holding the trim on the s cars

Also a personal plug for martin and his stash or parts. He has EVERYTHInG for these cars. He sent me a rear windscreen rubber seal that let me take out all the glass for the right way painting. Thanks again Martin

ironically this is what i have been looking at the past week or two. imma grab one out of the spare tub of parts tomorrow (first one i disassembled) and figure it out, as this was exactly what i thought as well. looks like they took the back of the cap off and put a brass plug in its place to hold a tougher spring inside.

re: speedo-
That is a great solution- I have been contemplating this while looking at my 200 cluster but keep thinking about the electronic odo. and how to work around that. Your solution would also help me with my planned switch from a 3b ECU to the AAN ECU and the speed sensor even though Craig figured out a solution for this (I want to keep the factory ECU because I live at 11,000 ft. and cold start is questionable here even when it's warm outside).

Thank you very much for all this fantastic info!!! (and Martin too!). Great thread-

Rick from what I have seen, the torsen 016 and the o1e share the same speedo sensor. They probable both get 5vs andsend a squarewave signal out to the cluster. I only used the 5000 speedo because it is a smaller diameter gauge that will fit into the urq cluster area an still lol oem.

It I have time prior to Vegas, I'll dig into that, but I will probably leave the speed up to the gps for now. Paint seems more important for some reason:)

Here is what I did...

016 bushing portion with 01E shifter inserted waiting for lockout plate.

Image

01E lockout plate ready to go with few items cut away (mounting for UrS centre console and the funky front loop).

Image

Since the floor bolt pattern is the same just stack them up nicely... and all done

Image

I may use the short shifter if it means lowering the rod, I have no clearance issues now but just incase that changes on the go.

Hope this hleps.

Thank you very much Hank! I try my best.
One of the Ur-q guys bought bunch of stuff from me and made a comment, "who needs Audi Tradition with you around"
You should see my basement! ;)

Cool. I have that bottom portion as well. Perhaps I will put it in and compare it with what I have. I found that having an extra gate is hard to get under the gater of the URQ without shortening the shifter. I'll check it out.

Nice carpet BTW :)
