I really don't know how they allow for it. I have had my hands on them installed and they do offer decent movement and don't have to be aligned properly. My guess is that the o-rings have some room to "slide" around inside the surface they seal on.

LowlyOilBurner, not sure if you've ever used a Wiggens, but they are a major pain. Hard to get everything lined up, cut yourself on them all the damn time, etc.

I'm just sayin... I went for the Hargetts for a reason. ;)

Well they aren't on my car yet, but here is my friend Tom's car. Hard to see them in this pic though.

There are other installed pics on Hargett's site.

Oh, don't worry. I will be more than excited and will probably post pics the absolute instant they are on because that will be the day the Holset goes on. I'm just patiently waiting for the 034 log manifold to get here..............................and for my intercooler to come.

All I need from here is on little oil fitting, some hardware for the exhaust mani, and some aluminum piping for the ic, and its going down.

The car will get the Holset at that point without new injectors. I'd rather get it on and over with before then because the injectors are $500 and when I get those and tune on them, the car will be making too much power for the stock clutch so I'll need to spend another $800 or so at that point to put it down. So I'm predicting that the car wont be making what I want it to make until sometime in the middle to end of the summer...depending on how awesome of a job I get.

After all of that is finished, my next project with this car is to get everything working properly. First up to the plate will be the AC. I will drop whatever coin I have to to get it working. I can't stand it here without AC. I've done it for two years now in this car lol. I'm hoping its the orifice tube or something similar. The comp works, but only when I short out the low pressure switch and the car wont take R134 (its been converted) for some reason. It just doesn't take it, so I think there is a blockage somewhere. Orifice tube seems like the best place to look.

From there, the power steering rack is my next concern. I already have a replacement rack. Just need the time to pull the motor to put it in. I figure at that point I might as well throw rods in and maybe head studs or something since I'll need to replace them anyway. That will probably be a good time to do the clutch too. So yeah, its all going to depend on time and money and when I can have the car down for weeks at a time to pull the motor. That should be satisfying though, because then I can turn up the BOOST!! :D

Seems like a decent plan to me...

Yeah, I'm a sucker for "while I'm in there." Thats why the car has Porsche brakes and a few other things.

I mean I might as well though...its all part of my master plan...muahahahaha

I'll have vids for sure. I just can't wait to see what its like to put some serious power down in the lower gears. I've only been in or owned cars that have big power but can't put it down...although I also hope that someday it requires slicks to put it down. It sure would be fun to spin all 4 going at highway speeds. Thats kinda my long term goal :) and after this summer, that will be the only goal I have left! I've met my handling goals, my stopping goals, and will be half way to my power goals soon. Its going to be a fun ride getting to the other half of that.

So does anyone remember the OD of the top part of the Bilstein FRONT struts? The part thats threaded. As you can see, the top hats fit the rear threaded part just fine but in the front we had to modify the hats so the hole was bigger so they would slide over the thick part there.

Why do I need to know this? So I can find the correct spherical bearings (with the correct ID) to work with them!

had my little consultation today about the mount. Pretty much all the details are ironed out but a few. I'll post details of that later.

I also put a timing light on the car and found out that its been 8 degrees retarded since I switched to VEMStune. Disabled the idle ign. advance and locked the ign. advance at zero. Hit it with the timing light and it took 8 degrees to get it lined up. Should be a lot faster now...lol

Treadstone came.

cheeze-its are for scale and are very scrumptious
Image
Image

this is the ID of a hargett up against the ID of the treadstone. I think I'm going to kinda "port match" the treadstone to match the ID of the Hargett.

Image

the intercooler is so much smaller than what I have come to expect of capable IC's but its all due to the fact that its vertical core. The end tanks are huge. If it flows 1492 CFM it flows 1492 CFM, there's no way around that. Should do the trick!

traded wheels for a few days with my friend who has a MKV

Image

Image

my S4 wheels look amazing on his car (in black). I may sell them to him to get the BBS's on my car and to maybe have some money left over to fund the Holset more quickly. I really love them though. I'll be sorta sad if I do sell them. BUT there are always other S4 wheels in the sea.

and finally, my dog is awesome :D

oh yeah, fin density is good...its got the staggered fins. So it looks like it doesn't have a lot, then you look harder and you see the other fins in there. This is the best pic I could get. (friends camera) He managed to get the whole camera inside the end tank lol

thanks man, I just talked to Javad. Prototype was approved, manifolds are in production. Still no ship date :( I really hope the manifold isn't what stops me from getting this beast done soon!

Intercooler piping will be bought in the next few days (anyone need extra t-bolts and silicone couplers (3")? I wont be using them at all.

Then just gotta save up for paying my buddy to weld everything up and use his lift pretty much.

If you are talking about saving up to pay for the fab costs:

Ha I really dont know. He hooks me up like crazy. When we built my exhaust, he charged me $200. That included an 8 ft section of 3" stainless steel, a $50 stainless v-band, and a muffler he had lying around at his shop...so basically labor was free lol.

He's a good friend of mine, but I don't mind paying for the lift time, his welding skills, etc. when I need them. Dyno time is free and so is tuning time so far at least.

So yeah...its probably going to take us all day to get everything on and fabbed up. If you REALLY want to know, I'll probably pay him $400 or so. That includes modifying the downpipe, him tig welding my ic piping all together, making brackets to mount it all, quick tune, lift time, and basically the entire rest of the install. I'd do the install all myself, but I can't do the welding well enough yet. I might do it sooner than I can afford to because he knows I'm good for the money lol. Just depends on when that darn manifold gets here ;)

For some reason I can never get a price up front. Its always done after we finish everything and if I don't have enough he knows I'm good for the rest in a few weeks or whatever. So yeah, a little hard to make a good estimation. I just wish I could weld though. Then I could do it all FO FREE! Maybe the next $800 or so I get, I'll try and buy myself one of those huge old Miller or Lincoln TIGs

if you were talking about the couplers and t-bolt clamps:

basically fo' free or fo' cheap if you want to donate a few bux to the build ;)

NIIICCCEEE! Always nice to have friends that can help with the project! As for the T-bolts and piping, I would go for it now but I am not sure exactally what I am looking at yet as for my project. I think I am to early in the build to know exactally what I am doing. :bashtard: If you still have them when I know, I will totally donate some cashola to the 200.

Only with Quattro does it make no difference if the track is wet.

Buhaha... I think that takes big balls to be racing on a wet track like that... even with quattro. Watching the first video that car still comes close to the center barrier from tire slip... that would be a little nerve rackin by itself! :tard:
