Looks like red loctite applied to few threads.
Head looks great, can't wait to see the same on the block side.

Thanks for the pic, Martin. I don't have that one in my collection, but I've got many other views/angles of that motor and the magnesium block which also has the deck cooling. Do you happen to know what they were using as a head gasket on those motors?
One thing that's been important with this little tangent, is that a standard MLS gasket can still be used as I didn't want a whole cascading list of supporting mods to make it work. So this is why I've kept the material removal to a minimum...at least initially. The works motors are definitely opened up more than what I see being done by those currently doing this and using standard MLS gaskets.

What are you looking for in particular, Tim? The pic Martin posted is about as hi res as I've seen and details the deck pretty well. There are also a lot of small variations in how the blocks were prepared--the sleeves in particular are different.

I'm sending you my block, and 20v head for this modification LOL can you make me a copy of that Audi valve cover? I would use a copper head gasket or the MLS, at least with the copper gasket you can reuse it, not cheap by any standards on either option though! Oh yea can I have set of those custom "decked" valves installed :cheers:

I say let's get that stroker project back on the front burner.
And, regarding the head gasket...I have to be able to use a stock <$100 MLS gasket for this revision. Maybe later down the line, open it up more (like the works head/block) and possibly have to use something like a straight copper/copper composite gasket, but at $250+ for that, plus the head/block work, it becomes a harder 'pill' to swallow.

I had some MLS gaskets bored out to 83.25mm in a fixture. A little north of 100$ but not much. I used the Copper with no oring, but it leaked bad. Jimmy uses it and claims good results.

I would make every effort to avoid using copper. I have been lucky, but my coolant does get a little dingy over time from oil mixing in somewhere. It's such a small amount I don't care, I just change it every 30k or so.

I've had some discussion and it looks like I should be fine with the MLS, even with the deck cooling opened up to something more along the lines of the AudiSport stuff. Also discussed some highly positive real world performance benefits from the mods.
So, I'm in the process of revising the design and I'll throw my test head back on the machine and remove some more material. Should have something in the next few weeks.
In the meantime, I was able to dry fit my Honey Badger (TM) coilovers made up of $300 worth of new and second hand parts. I think they turned out pretty damn nice. We'll see how these struts hold up. I've decided to try and bring my spring rates down a bit in hopes of not killing them, if they're not half gone already...

Did you end up extending the front tubes from 50 to 55mm?
Euro strut housings were 55mm to start with on the 150hp and up models.

No...the fronts are still small bore. It just made more sense with what I already had on hand to work with, despite the lower performance.
I would probably do something akin to the Mance BBSE in the future.
