From an engineering standpoint, they should have more longevity than a machined aluminum set IF the welds are good.

id put a small gusset or two in there for sure, brakes are important, to strengthen and eliminate flex

I have been debating about that. I should... better safe than sorry. Ya know? When I build the 2nd one I will add a gusset to this one and repaint.

Ok, so I plan on hitting the Audi full force this weekend. I want to complete the ass end minus the E-brake provision...

Lists help

1. Clean up everything
2. Mock up/weld mounts for the rear swaybar and install
3. Finish the drivers side caliper adapter
4. Paint subframe
5. Swap out subframe and diff bushings for 034 goodness
6. Clean/wash under the car
6. Undercoat fenders
7. Assemble

Today I had about an hour and pulled the rear subframe to give me a head start.

Ben, your car must be an early build 1985 which has the 1984 style rear diff with the larger output flanges. I think that means you can bolt in a urq diff without any problems. That's a good thing :wink:

Sweet... I am pretty much at a stand still because I can't get the new density line diff bushing to go in. I had to cut out the old one and now I can't press in the new one. I guess I have to wait till tuesday for a machine shop to open. :(

Nice job, it looks great with that new paint. Is it just me or is the bar hitting the subframe in that last pic? And, is that a 4kq front bar? It looks too large to me for some reason to be from a fwd 4k.

Ya, the angle of the photo makes it look like it's smacking to subframe, but rest assured it clears with lots of room (if you look at the first picture it shows that it clears a lot better). Also it is a quattro front sway bar (nice call ). I want to have the fwd one up front with the quattro in the rear. I am hoping that will allow it to induce oversteer when I am light on the throttle and understeer when I'm on the power. I also wonder what would happen if I ran the same size in the back as the front. Any thoughts?
