I dont want to hear about the "did you pull your axles?" questions. Even the manual says this is ok to tow in this manner. Even if it wasnt, I dont care because the transmission is junk and it deserves to be destroyed.

Hey did you pull the rear drive line before towing it like that? That center diff won't be too happy with you.

It actually might not hurt anything because the center diff will be flooded with oil, and the trans gears will be turning which will splash lube up and around to things.

Lots different than towing a RWD without pulling the driveshaft, because then the only thing that turns is the output shaft... inside the gears which might be on needle bearings or they might be on bushings, and getting NO splash lube because the gears aren't turning.

You don't hear about 20vt people bending rods or breaking 016s do you? :)

Although at this point, I'm mainly going 20vt because I already cut the battery tray out... if I went 20vt then I'd have to find another battery tray and weld it in because there'd be no reason to give up all that cargo space. And yes, I'm dead serious. I think I'm at $4500 with the 20vt and still haven't bought a computer yet, and I plan on ditching the KKK turbo for a Precision PT5558 next spring...

There's a lesson in this. NEVER ADD UP WHAT YOU HAVE SPENT. And especially never do autotrader searches for 6-speed Allroads and realize that you could have just bought one of those AND fixed any suspension issues it probably had.

Has anybody ever actually had a problem with towing a car with two wheels on the ground? A coupe we had was towed like that probably 10 miles, was totally fine for the year+ we had it for... Just a myth? :hide:

my friend towed a v8q that way and it sized something up and started dragging the arse end down the road. He sawzalled the driveshaft and continued.

But...that was also an automatic, a whole 'nother set of issues.

The automatics are torsion centers along with the later 016 trans. Those you can not tow like I did as they are technically limited slip differentials

They are technically open diffs, not limited slip... unless they have a preloading clutch/Belleville washer in them.

Either way torsion's do not like being towed like that.

Torsen center and rear on a v8. At least on all the other cars you've got an open rear and a torsen center, or open center. Torsen on both ends is the definition of NO
