The car has been misfiring a bit lately in high boost so I decided to change plugs today. Same plugs as before, just brand new (bosch). Put them in and went for a rip. 10psi and hit a damned brick wall because of misfires. I'm confident that its the stupid plug wires again. I'm going to try and see if some dielectric grease will help (had some on them already from the previous plugs), but it probably wont. New MSD plug wires will be the solution, but they are too spensive. I'm horridly poor until the end of this month lol. I'll be less poor if Mosler pays me for my week of work. They are going to assess my skills from the 27th to the 31st :)

Congrats man! Hope you get the job! :)

Edit: By checking your skill levels, is that just so they can figure out what kind of jobs to put you on?

It was more of, "come in and show us what you can do," type of thing. They'll have me on CAD period. I'm pretty sure of that at least. I'll know more in a few weeks!

Have you fiddled with plug gaps? What coils are you running? I have a feeling this has been covered many times.

No plug gap to fiddle with on the plugs I'm running. I thought that was the problem at first too when I was running my NGK's. Now I'm running Bosch's and they are pretty much at a set gap.

Coils are LS2. They have been gone through way too many times too. I'm pretty much 99% confident its the plug wires.

Not much luck with the grease. It did run a bit better. Enough for it to pull cleanly in first gear. I thought it was cured and went at it in second, but then it happened again though possibly at a higher boost threshold than before. First didn't make enough boost to have problems I guess. The improvement could have just as easily been from just moving the wires around as it was from the grease. Its time for new wires!

So did you end up getting you VEMS ignition issues ironed out? I may be headed there in the very near future

not really, but its really the plug wire issues...not VEMS issues. I'm pretty sure of that at least. I have a feeling the big pops I'm getting are from the plug wires as well.

Chris, I saw this today and you where to first one that popped into my mind. I feel like your 200 would hang with this crowd and fit in just fine once you get your wheels and tires nailed down!

Yeah, I tend to go along with that school of thought (stance wise). I do think it should be sittin right when its all finished. Might need to cut and widen them to really finish it off though ;)

Jim, I've got some spec'ed out for me now. Same ones Janis is running. They are $$$$ though. Should have them after the first of the year.

it's a tough place to be - between stance and practicality... gotta flush out all the voices around you saying 'you're an idiot'

....c'mon now, it's not a track car so let me introduce some art and finesse into the car's presence!

Yes, its a fine balance in some cases. As for this car and the style 5's...I'm undecided. Its nice to have wheels that sit flush, but they just aren't big enough/wide enough to be my dream setup. The fitment isn't too terrible though! I could probably run a 215 on these.

Mind you, I only really had one wheel on at a time as I only have one completely put together and with a tire at this point. Had to photoshop two pics together.

Image

Thats as low as the front will go. Thats also just about as low as the rear can go. The rear is fine, but the front is just unacceptable. A bigger wheel will tuck into the fender more which is why I want to try some lamborghini 19's, but my new strut mounts will also help as soon as I can get them made for me. This is how I'd like it to sit with these wheels.

Image

if anyone is interested in more pics of the poke and such let me know and I'll post them. The rear is flush, the front pokes a bit but I think it will come in flush when its all the way down with the new strut mounts (especially with more camber).

Regardless, I think I might have to either sell them or let my dad have them for his E36 (only if he drops it on some coils :) ) Then again, they do look pretty decent... I dunno. Its a tough decision! The $1k I'd get for them sure would make for some nice money towards getting the 90 running!

To be honest Chris, I am not a big fan of those wheels on that car. I think you've had better along the way "looks" wise.

I agree Ben. Thanks for the constructive criticism. I just can't handle sunken wheels anymore! I need to be able to look in my mirrors and see some flushness :) I don't think it will be with these wheels though. This car deserves some 11's out back and 9's up front with some serious lip. Probably 5 spokes...probably OZ Futuras. Can't get much better than those on this car (I've posted pics of them before).

Yea they could look better.. They need the center caps and some color on the center section - pearl white or gold? Decent fit though!

YES!!!!! I'm very happy. No more misfires :)

The big misfire pops were solved by an ECU with the proper trigger config settings (I don't know how the other one got messed up) and the little misfires were just solved with new plug wires. Well...kinda new. I was looking for some parts to sell to a fellow MG'er and found my old plug wires. I saw the dizzy cap ends on them and realized that they looked like they might clip onto the LS2 coils. They did, and I proceeded to make a 100mph run banging out shifts at 7800 RPMs with no misfires whatsoever. W0000000t!!!!

I really wish I knew how much power it is making. I really have no idea. Feels pretty good in third gear though. It pulls like a freight train with nearly no timing in it and only on 17psi. Can't wait to get it on the dyno with some more timing AND a rerouted dump tube.
