Indeed, we've got D90's at work. I like them a lot. Haven't shot with Canon too much, but the Nikon's are super easy and intuitive.
Controls are the reason I went with the GH series from Panasonic, on the lower end models they don't have nearly the amount of switches/buttons/etc. and leave much up to navigating touchscreens. Still way better than my Olympus EPM2 that I've got for my 'backpocket camera', EVERYTHING is through a menu (and Olympus hides the advanced menu; you have to unlock it).

Love Nikon's layout/ergonomics too.

That's what sold me over Canon when I decided which format to invest in, way back when.

Yes, its all about having the right controls at the ready when you really need them most! Those precious few seconds saved can mean the difference between the shot of a lifetime, and a shot of nothing :)
