Do you have a link/specs for this new rad?
Is it also compatible with the urI5?

This is what I am using for now. It has epoxy in the endtanks so it is making welding it more difficult.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/gri-2 ... /overview/I also dug out my old all metal 4k radiator and am going to see about trimming that down since it already has a high efficiency core in it.
Some interesting things about the Ron Davis. The rows at both outer edges were capped off.
This is also the case with my old metal capped radiator.
So, shrinking this radiator down in size isn't going to be as big of a deal because I was already down two full rows..

The summit core is toast. The epoxy melted and an angry angle grinder got into a couple of the rows. Fuck it. That was a $230 lesson. I just ordered a custom core from a local race shop, 13" wide, 18" high and 3.25" wide. Should work much better.

Would the epoxy issues preclude one of those Scirrocco radiators from being readily modified for use on an old I5, assuming someone had a way to make their own end tanks and weld everything up?

I think they are too wimpy. The size is smaller than factory and this particular core weighs half as much as the Ron Davis. A better option is to just get a 95 ford ranger two row radiator, trim it down and make end tanks. I didn't do this because it's still less dense and 17" tall vs 18" but they can be had for around $120. This core is running me $375. I'll just re-use most of the Ron-Davis end tanks.
The epoxy cores can be welded. I wasn't careful enough and had some run into the puddle which resulted in a downward spiral. Even to off gassing from getting warm was making it difficult to weld.

Here is the new core and finished end tanks. Also sent the hot side, downpipe and header off for Cerakote Turbine coating. I painted the chra with VHT flame proof since I didn't want to leave this with the coating guys...

I made up the oil lines. Next up is coolant lines and mounting the water pump. Every time I think I'll have some time to work on it, something comes up. Maddening sometimes. I should get some good time in this Friday.

Friday of BBQ at IMS

There is a PCA event at Spring Mountain in Sept that I am shooting for, that's only two months away!
We should do something local, but you guys should all be planning to go to Vegas for BBQ !
