hey aaron first off i just wanna say this car is amazing i would do anything to have mine like this! i do how ever have a question i have a b5 awm 1.8t motor will that built into a 01E transmission?

thanks!!!

yes your motor and trans will bolt right up.

use the B5 clutch setup and starter. but your AWM needs to be a manual, or you will need to make a pilot bearing adapter.

the 01E of course also uses 108mm output flanges. you can use the B5A4 rear diff flanges in the trans to run stock B5 A4 front axles.

you need to make sure the rear diff of the car (if it is a B5A4) has a 4.11 final drive (S4) or you need to source a 3.89 FD 01E.

Hate to split hairs.....QUICKEST Audi in America. Fastest is something else. (I believe Gerner's car holds that title)

ahhh, yes. i speak in 1/4 mile at a time language, not salt or Texas Mile talk. but yes that S4 hauls major ass.

but yes it actually IS the fastest & quickest 1/4 mile Audi in N America.

Now that i couldn't and wouldn't challenge! Congrats on that accomplishment, by the way. It's big time. 8-)

as we all know (hopefully by now, 3.5 yrs later) i dont leave well enough alone EVER.

after making eight 9 second passes back to back, my alternate driver made a pass and hit 2nd instead of 4th on his maiden run. the motor spun 12,011 rpm, so it pulled it and took it all apart to inspect.

and everything was GREAT! the valve guides need some love though i think, #1 and #4 show some need of attention.

i am refreshing the block with new rings and rod bolts (@ $29/ea FML) and doing some work to the crank-FW interface to make it stay still. the machine shop has two cranks and the FW to do identical to each. as i am building a spare motor for back up at this time. full tilt boogie, girdle and billet mains and all. the reason for new rod bolts, ARP 625 New Age, is the simple fact that we never measured them at the time of build so we have no baseline to go off of to check for stretch. we WILL BE measuring this at the time of assembly, this go round, you can be sure.

the head i use now is a small port with work and some mismatched (for my application) CAT cams. they do the job though obviously.

the head that will be on the car next time it runs is a worked largeport, with IE's very limited and highly custom solid lifter camset. its advertised duration on exhaust is 288 and intake is 310!!!! its gonna ROCK!!!!

the later plan is to build a new bottom end and refresh the "now" smallport head, and have a fully tuned and ready-to-go longblock in case of emergency.

i am hoping it is all done well before the next planned outing.

here are some pictures from the last outing, enjoy! the chassis is doing well, it is twisting up and seems to want to pull either front tire off the ground on a launch. i am COMPLETELY IMPRESSED with the results, being as how i know absolutely NOTHING about building full on drag car chassis, period. i can only imiagine what will be, in the long run. my personal goals have grown with the car and its results, but i am always reserved for my expectations.

its no fuel. i saw this a couple yrs ago, and its a lot of money. i would have to send the trans to them, wait, then pay to send it back to me.

i have spoken with the people who actually PRODUCE this part, and SQS sells, and it would be a couple hundo cheaper (USD) but i am reserved.

i would rather spend my free money (my time ;) ) trying things out and THEN if they dont work do something like this.

i have been designing my own shifter this year. here is a SNEAK PREVIEW of it. and, i just bought one of these as well, to try out. i am thinking honestly about setting up the shifter with a strain gauge setup. advanced shifting 103 type stuff :)

and, i just purchased a VWMS style shift setup, to try out with Morse style cables. one day, i will think i am at "that level" LOL

sheeeit. i forgot to put the tubular pic on!!!! thats what drinkin 15 degree vodkas straight from the machine (THANKS MYKE aka Toxcheap) does....

but, i am modding the stock subframe up front to allow motor removal easier. with a dropout cross section. and adding the 034 small chassis tubular control arms at this time (most likely, if i can get the correct ball joints at this time)

Very cool. I guess you are ALL over it.

Saw it and thought of you/your car.

I agree it is a $hit load of $$ and why I was apologizing for tossing fuel on an already hot fire.

BTW, your car is Badass, so cool to see you're car hitting it's stride.

no fear, no fuel on a fire that is not present.

i appreciate all constructive criticism and ideas, really. some i have looked at, researched, and dismissed. there are a few times that someone mentions some angle i hadnt seen, so i would research it. if it worked out, then great. if not, well nothing ventured nothing gained.

and thank you very much, for the compliment.

i would LOVE to say its all me, i meant to do that, etc. truth is, i dunno how it came about but i have been really lucky with driving the car, as of late. there is no way i would claim a 0.014 and 0.024 R/t as purposeful. actually quite by accident. the rest of it, the launch and shifting, well i got lucky i think.

the chassis is working well, the driver is seeming to meet expectations LMFAO) and things are coming together. kinda like Buttcheeks

but the chassis is fully stable, no sign of torque-steer or other errant driving behaviors. it is all working out good for an amateur chassis guy like me.

i think i am at the 90% level, where i need to start focusing on the LITTLE things like spring rates, dampening, etc that will effect things at a smaller more confined level. overall its working really good, but there are always things to improve on. those things i need to find.

weight, i can address this at the current ratio of 100lb = /.100 second. and truly think i can lose around 250-300 lb, with some $$$ addition LOL

just an update... i dont really update this too often but that doesnt mean i wont. i usually update FB though.... and i think my mind says a lot of you guys see it there so......

so some catching up.

last track day, i ran 9.34 and 153.87, and my alternate driver hit 2nd instead of 4th and spun it mechanically 12,011 rpm. so i pulled it and gutted it to check things out. things looked "ok".
no rod bolt stretch which is good.
FW loose which is not.
.008 piston/cyl clearance, yuck.
every single valve was leaking. double yuck.

power honed it, and put new rings in it (and still have unfiled 2nds @ .026!!!!) and new rod bolts. measured for stretch this time.
hand lapped the head, and put it together. used a stock HG (81mm bore on 83mm bored block) and cheapest 20w-50 i could find. reused the nbearings even. could have even reused the HG if i really wanted to cheap out on it.

and this thing fires right up, no more smoking at idle, and sounds good. idle vac is up a lil to 18", and hot oil pressure is a steady 52psi at idle.

in a few days, i am going to take it out and beat the crap out of it, and probably treat it like a rental car as the new motor is already in the works so this can be a "Hail Mary" type of day!

strengthened the FW to crank interface some, with 11 bolts now. did two cranks with this pattern so i can reuse this FW on the new motor.

also, i pulled the onboard cam setup in favor of the fully remote activated GOPRO setup. once they release the software, i will have live streaming from the cockpit on a run!

some pictures for catchup, and then a video session of reinstalling the motor. i did it in spaced out days as i have really strained my back, and am worried about being able to drive it even come Sunday. but i have an alternate driver or two available if i cant feel up to it. (who am i kidding, pain or not i am in this thing!!!!)

now, i tore it down on the tailgate of the work truck at Joeys shop in Portland, DoubleJMotorwerks.

so we had extra bolts put in the FW, lets see how that does. not a ton of room there really.

then checking the head and lapping valves, etc.
