I have one of these K-Sport hydraulic handbrakes on my car - really nice piece and for $250 they are cheap in comparison to some of the other options. You gotta pay for some lines and fittings but you could run all that yourself and get it done for pretty cheap.

Later down the road my car will get these; 340 + Ship isn't too awful bad.

the micro calipers are cool and possibly easier to integrate than the ksport that Ed has, but ultimately I think that having a hydraulic hand brake linked to upgraded rear calipers could be more useful. I like the idea of being able to modulate rear brake pressure seperate from front. It also adds a bit of rally style to the interior of the car, which is particularly fitting in a bad ass UrQ like Hank's.

That price does not take into account the custom mounting bracket that would need to be made for peoples to run them. Then you would have to get a consensus on what rear rotor everyone would be running. The different diameter size rotors would dictate how the bracket would need to be made. Mounting location on the rear hubs would have to be figured out. All that R&D, takes time and money, so your costs would be going up.
In addition, this static brakes is a front pull ebrake. Some type of pulley system would have to be designed, for small chassis cars to run this brake.
You may get the brakes for $340, but where is the rest of the items you will need going to come from?

Greg, I will make my brackets just like I made my mounting brackets for the rear calipers. I just plan on welding one up that comes off the back of the strut housing; facing the back side of the car. It will be a piece of cake. The way I see it, people can either have someone make their brackets (READ: HANK

) OR make their own. 340 is a nice cheap solution when compairing to buying the brembo piece, ESPECIALLY if you don't want to deal with running brake lines into the car.
EDIT: Also, I don't think a pully system is going to be in order here. There is no reason to over complicate an E-brake set up. Also, the orientation of the caliper really shouldn't matter, especially in 99% of situations the car will be at a stop when being used. All I care about is, will it hold the car on the hill realiably.

Greg, with the static brake up front, I wouldn't use the ebrake handle. I would just make a simple pull and lock mechanism, probably down by the hood release cable. This would only be for parking. The Handbrake would be a traditional hydro brake with some monocalipers in the rear.
I too would just weld a bracket to the upright that would just utilize the mounting tabs on the calipers. I don't want a group buy on the brackets and rotors, just on the calipers!

You and I speak the same language man. We should really look into a group buy of the calipers!

Sounds like an aweful lot of 'making' going on. All a bit different than the next. I think it would be hard to get participation on a group buy unless someone comes up with a plug-n-play kit.

Porsche Caliper + Adapter + B5 S4 rear rotor + Ebrake = Lots of MONIES!
READ: Not to mention the 5 lug conversion.

Unfortunately, I did not come up through the metal trades. I came up through the wood trades.
I can build any building from the ground up, build a power plant, electrical station and towers, high pressure gas lines, but no hands on. I need boilermakers, pipefitters, and ironworkers. Last time I welded, was 44 years ago.
I always envied the metal crafts. Just never got the experience in it. Oh, I can figure out how it needs to go together, but I need someone to prep and weld it for me.

I feel your pain, i reinforced my fiberglass bumper with wood and used it for mounts, not ideal but till i can find someone to refab it all out of metal, its the best I can do.

Well this whore has been taking my life over, but with only 6 weeks till the competition, the end is in sight.

That chunk of billet on the axle is 85whp and 425wtq available at 0rpm. The gas engine is basically just there to qualify as a hybrid! Lol.
Anyway, my urq has been largely neglected for months. I can barely do customer/friend projects much less my own. Luckily the two recent mods require only 4 wires(aim pista) and install of the plug wires under my new rain tray! Huge shoutout to Nick for hooking me up with the dealer discount on that spendy piece of plastic!

I love CAN protocol! I wish I had more time sort the car. A local customer invited me to a private full track at miller Wednesday for the cost of paying the corner workers, but thr car needs some attwntin to get back on the track.
Oh, and torsen front impressions... Not sure I really like it. It does do some wicked torque steer if one isn't careful, but does deliver a tremendous amount I'd grip. With the rear locked, the car stuck to the road and very neutral. I think a wavetrac may find its way in the rear as a graduation present.

I love the rear suspension on the FASE car...i really need a welder so I can do something like that. The bay of the UrQ looks so simple and well thought out...not at all stock. I'm jealous of both sir...

New rain trays are still available at the dealer. Not cheap, and they're pretty crappy thin plastic, but they are still available so I guess we shouldn't complain too much.

I was under the impression that they werent available anymore from Audi. Even at $155 it really helps make the engine bay look that much cleaner. I may need to get one. Did someone say carbon? count me in.

Yeah, I'm going to be interested in the results of that too.
Hope all is going well for you Hank. I know you've been ridiculously busy! Try and make it to Carlisle while you are up there for the SAE event

The Sr. Project/Capstone is just my universities entry to the FSAE Hybrid competition at the New Hampshire Raceway the first week of May. I can't say too much, as I often poach other websites and google searches looking for the competitive schools information, but it is basically an open wheeled hybrid race car for the weekend racer. We are limited to 300v, 250cc and ginormous restrictions if forced inducted. We are shooting for sub 500 lbs with a combined output of 120whp and ~445wtq. To meet the weight, carbon was used where we could( suspension, body, covers, exc.), we made our own PCB boards(the rats nest in the picture on the dyno is pure mock up), optimized all machined parts in software and did good engineering practice to get the lightest package possible. I have participated in several years worth of SAE cars in several universities, and this is by far the most advanced one I have been a part of. It should be pretty competitive!

Yes, the seal is available at the dealer at a cool 155$. The PN is 811-819-099-A
I had wanted it forever, and now that my coils are in the rain tray, it made it even more pleasing to the eye to have it there.
