I gotta say I love the seats... Not 100 percent on the brown... but either way, they look like some high quality work!

I think when you see them in person you will really like the dark brown - which is better than the two tone black and blue that Wolff was trying to convince me of... I mean dark brown was original, and you know how I like to keep my car original *evil grin* Speaking of loaner seats, ever see an UrQ with three front seats? There is one in my garage right now lol Are you home this evening John?
C'mon, my dogs never once annoyingly asked "are we there yet?"[/quote]
Well they are probably to busy slobbering and scratching at that window that doesn't work trying to get it to roll down.
I must admit that they are a couple of very well mannered and behaved dogs. Only a few times have I seen them too excited to think.....running crazy in my back yard and falling into the 10' deep window well to say hi to the turtle comes to mind. I guess when I picture that same energy in a Urq is when the cringe starts forming.
Yea I'm home tonight and off tomorrow so staying up a bit late isn't a problem if you want to stop by.

how is turtle, BTW? Chub asks every once in awhile about his friends in Was Begas....
and the brown may get better once its in the car with the rest of the interior.... it does look like nice work though from the pix.

Ha Ha.....I tell everybody I welded up that heavy duty industrial grade grating over the top to keep my grandkids and Chub from falling into the hole while trying to coax the turtle out of it's sleeping hole. Really it's to keep Sean's unruly dogs from crashing through my basement windows.

Both Damien AND Chub love to run around that back yard!

Those seats looks great. I've started getting quotes to redo the seats in my UrQ, and damn leather is expensive!

Thanks. I can't believe the lack of love for the brown, I mean it IS the original color. Every daggum car out there has black, even that Cayman S thats for sale...
I think the seats REALLY elevate the car to the next level. I didn't have a problem with the 'patina' of the original seats, when the side bolster let go I was crushed. All the $$$ and the 2 1/2 month wait paid off when I installed the first one back in the car.

Reminds me of when I dropped a wheel barrow down there and smashed the window
It's amazing how our minds shut out those not so good times.
 I had almost forgot about that. You were trying to get some gravel or dirt for you cockateel birds, but couldn't have weighed as much as the wheelbarrow let alone the gravel inside. What were you, about 10yrs old? Heck you couldn't even get the barrow out of the window well to hide the evidence before I got home from work. It was just half in the bedroom and half in the well. They look awesome Sean, I like the brown. Seems a bit different than the stock color but I still like. Also I think they swapped the seat backs. The tilt release should be on the opposite of the seat belt latch  .

Good eye, I noticed that too. I don't think Im going to change it since it's way easier to turn the seat angle adujstment knobs when they aren't interfering with the center tunnel now. Plus, I can tell people that the seats don't go forward so I can't have more than one passenger lol

As if the dogs are going to go for that.

Looks like a high quality job on the seats. Nice. Good eye, Dave, reagrding the latch and seat belt. Funny.
Sean - regarding having spent more on the car than what some are selling for - you and I both know it's not the entry fee that gets you with these cars.....
Lookin good - lookin forward to catching up with all you guys in October.

Sean, seats look amazing! Looking forward to getting ours redone like that... or in reality, the UrS seats redone which will get retrofitted into the UrQ

So the car is up in the air awaiting the first wrench to be turned on the complete and long overdue suspension upgrade.
I'm doing the front end first and then possibly flipping the car around in the garage to work on the rear. With the exception of pulling the interior pieces out of the rear, the work on the rear should be easy since I dont have to press out the old subframe bushings. I have a complete seam welded subframe ready to be swapped.
I will be shamelessly looking for advice along the way, I need to keep this lil project in motion. I have started way later than I expected due to the 100° plus garage temps and it surely needs to be done for the event in October. I have a realistic timeline of 1 month...

So, those axle nuts... 32mm? 34mm? Of course I have everything up to those sizes. Which one should I buy?

Re: I took the BLUE Pill. (Sean's Helios 83 UrQ)
I'd have to look at my sockets, but my Craftsman set came with a 30-something that fits the bolt. I don't think it's a 34mm, but I've been wrong before.
Re: I took the BLUE Pill. (Sean's Helios 83 UrQ)
It's a 32mm Sean and I have a deep socket in that size if you want to borrow instead of buy. I'll be up for another hour or two trying to stay up late to help me swap to night schedule.

Off to Checker I went. Home with a new 32mm impact I came. I kinda dig buying tools when in need. Usually guarantees that next time I wont have the same problem.
It allowed me to get this far tonight.

Tomorrow if I can still use my hands I will rip out the front subframe.

Re: I took the BLUE Pill. (Sean's Helios 83 UrQ)
You read my mind.
I looked at them before I looked at the struts. I should have pushed harder for those wheels to go with the Red car when I bought it. They do look good. What size tire are you running on them? 225/55/16?
When are you going to be ready to cut, grind, and weld? I'm off Friday.

Friday may be perfect :O}
I think they are a 215/50-16 but I'd have to check... these have never rubbed, the 225/50's did. Those wheels would have increased the value of the car by 50% lol

Re: I took the BLUE Pill. (Sean's Helios 83 UrQ)
Where did they rub, in the fronts on sharp cornering? Did they clear the strut where a slight roll would take care of the rub?
I may have spoken to soon on the Friday thing.......I just got to work and looked at the schedule because I vaguely recalled agreeing to an overtime day. Yea, you guessed it, I am on the schedule to work Friday, but I will be off on Saturday.

Ok, so another weekend 100º+ but I didn't have much choice in the matter to keep the momentum going.
I managed to get the rear struts and control arms out. I hate this job, wrestling the upper mounts from inside the car just sucks...

Next was the front subframe, this wasn't fun either, but oddly it wasn't as bad as I prepared for.

I was on a roll and noticed how a couple of the metal inserts fell out of the factory mounts, this motivated me to just go ahead and bang out the old subframe mounts. I guess it's the rear subframe and diff that is going to give me the headaches, cuz this ain't going too bad so far.

Monday I will do a little more cleaning - NOT MUCH on the front subframe and get that back up under the car. Then on to removing the old control arm bushes - not looking forward to that... After that Im going to really have to give the workplace a good cleaning up, working in these conditions are not my-style... I have two rally-type rigs up on jack stands in the garage and Im running out of room. I'll get the work bench straightened up and then I can break down the strut assemblies - then I'll be knocking on Johns door ;o]
