Yep.
I have looked into this a lot. Apparently what you need to be worried about is the rotating diameter. Not sure where I read this, but the Audi engineers said it should be within a certain percentage (I believe about 3%). The wheel and tire combination I have right now is within about .24%. Its 225 40 18 and 255 35 18.

If it's under a couple % difference you'll be fine. However it will make the car an even more understeering pig than it already is.

:stupid:
No matter how cool it looks, bigger tires on the rear of any Quattro or even FWD car makes them handle much worse....

Thanks for the advice guys. I definitely do not intend to use these wheels for aggressive driving though. These are just an intermediate step so I can fit some brakes and new suspension in there. After everything is in line and I want to go fast around corners etc., I will throw some RS's on I think. They will be super light, look sick, and I can have different lips if I want to run staggered sometimes or just have it for a nice track setup.
These Porsche wheels seem to weigh a ton anyhow. I just couldn't pass up the deal! They will suit it very nicely for a while

Don't you fellas worry, it will be no retardedly built show queen. Sure, it will look good, but my philosophy has always been function over form. Sometimes I have thoughts of roll cage running through my brain :-D Then I think about how much I love the fact that this is a family car and how its all cushy, and how everything would go much faster in a smaller chassis car one day.
by the way...here is a really crappy vid of some launch control action. The car was acting up a bit so it wasn't spittin' HOT FIRE! like it usually does lol. I'll get something better soon.

Care to explain why a tires width would affect anything on a quattro in a 'no good' manor? Rolling diameters, yes, staggered widths with the same diameters, no problem.
All thing being equal a wider tire on back than on front will provide more grip and increase understeer.

Dont worry man I am determined to make it happen! Just keep an eye on this thread. I'm sure EVERYONE will know when I get them lol. I'm going to be super excited. They are definitely the best ones money can buy from what I know.
EFFIN $1300 for just two front struts lol...and thats not for a custom set like I'll probably have to do.

I have been having a little issue with what I can only guess is the crank trigger wires.
(I wired them into a new connector...but one wire may be a little loose. Ill check into it today)
Anyway, here are the symptoms.
When I was on my way home from school a week ago, after doing a pull, my RPM's would fluctuate really quickly between 3k and 4k. Then I'd do another pull and it would be better. (sometimes)
Then the little trip computer display started freaking out too, giving nonsensical readouts.
Then the other day I was doing a little second gear rip, and the tack freaked out, and the car just stopped getting spark or something. I had to coast to a stop and restart it. When I restarted it, it was like nothing ever happened lol. I thought I shot a freakin rod thru the block or something haha.
Any ideas besides the crank trigger wiring? I thought it was my cluster at first because it wasnt affecting the way the car drove. Now that is not the case.

I'd check all your grounds. Then look at the connectors on the cam and crank position sensors. I can't help too much because I threw away all the stock stuff pretty early on.

I made sure the wires were all nicely connected, and it hasnt done it again so far. I was on it at least 10 times today and all was well.
On another note, I have some of the push switches for the center console (radio) area that don't light up. The fog one, and both seat heater ones dont light. I went to the auto parts store and actually found the correct bulbs for inside the switches, but that only fixed my antilock brakes one. The fog one still doesn't light for some reason, and I have no idea how to get to the lights in the seat heater ones. If anyone knows how, please let me know...otherwise, I'd love to know where to purchase some new switches! If you cant get them new, I'd like to purchase good ones from someone.
I also need the part on the dash that is like a vent for the windshield. There are two small bolts and nuts on either side of it (underneath) and one screw right in the middle that holds it under the dash.
I'm just trying to get EVERYTHING working on the car. Even the smallest details. My next thing to tackle is the buttons for the windows that don't light up! (a few work)

Im toying with the idea of getting a cluster that can read 8k plus...anyone know if there are ways to use other clusters? Keep in mind standalone...

So I have decided that my crazy tach problem lies within the cluster. It was going nuts on the cluster while driving today and I had the computer hooked up especially for this purpose...and on the computer tach, it was working just fine. I'm going to take it out and check all the solder joints.
I also found an AMAZING link for fixing interior switches...
http://www.20v.org/acclight.htmalso, someone told me I could probably troubleshoot my ac problem by just pusing buttons on the climate control unit using the troubleshooting guide in bentley...I dont have a copy of that yet though. Would anyone care to post the steps required for this?
That would be great!

Climate Control "How TO's"
http://www.audifans.com/kb/Climate_control_codes I've done that trick from the 20V site, it works great. Most Radio Shack's don't carry the bulbs in stock, so you have to order them, but no big deal.

Not sure if I mentioned my little toggle switch project.
Main reasoning...I want my launch control, shift cut, etc. on switches.
Also, toggle switches are cool lol
So after much debating, I have decided to put the toggle switches in the spot where the CD changer display usually goes. That will give me enough room for about 3 switches. They are similar to this style:

I am also putting LED's on above them so I know they are activated.
I'd take pics of what I am doing and how, but I forgot my camera at home!
:curses:
Basically I am using a piece of Lexan to mount the switches, etc. I may leave it clear, and I may paint it black. I haven't decided yet. We will see when I go to test fit it.
I also plan to put my coil (relay) power wire on like 4 toggle switches in line up in the sunroof motor area as a sort of anti-theft device :-D I'll have some mounted backwards and they will have to be flipped in a certain SECRET configuration in order to start the car...totally unlabeled hehe :-D
I know there is no reason for this...its just something for me to do in my spare time, and I think its fun

You know you can get toggle switches with built in lights right?

by loxxrider
lol yes, but I didn't like the styling of those.
I think I am going to use a knee mill tomorrow to make the holes so they are perfect. Now all I have to do is find out a way to write stuff on it. I was thinking about taping off the words I want, then putting it in the sandblaster so I can side light it and have the words etched in and light up

So far my interior projects are going awesomely!
I have rebuilt all of the dash switches like the seat heater, antilock, rear fogs, etc. successfully. They all function and light up like they are supposed to now

I still have to tackle the LEDs in the window switches.
I also got a battery and am in the process of obtaining a bulb for the key light.
Finally, I made my toggle switch panel today on the mill.
Here was the unfinished result...

I thought that might look cool, but then I put some fabric behind it to see what it would look like, and I couldn't stop myself from adding another (genuine) Burberry accent to the car.

Unfortunately I left my camera at home while I was on spring break, so I had to use my roommate's for these pics. They don't do it justice at all. I'll get good ones soon of it all put together.

Now I want to do one last Burberry accent in the car. Just the little plastic triangle pieces adjacent to the front pillars and the windows. I will update when those are done...then I may just have enough to cover the rear cigarette lighter socket panel

I think that will be just enough to keep it tasteful (the only other thing accented with it is the sunroof motor cover).
I will be busy wiring all the switches in tomorrow or whenever I get the time. Then I have to get started with sunroof motor cover switches...
As I have mentioned previously, there will be 4 toggles up there connected to my coils...only one configuration will allow the car to start
The rest of my to do list is as follows:
-fix drivers heated seat (this is going to suck)
-diagnose and fix ac comp
-paint diff lock switch (some of the stock paint is chipped off)
-cover center console (under arm rest) with something...probably gray suede...maybe black...this will be tough, but I've dealt with something of this level
-cover door panels (not the leather part) with something...uppers will be the gray suede I used for the pillars, headliner, etc...bottoms...who knows. Maybe I'll just have to give in and get some black suede
-fix wacky cluster
-cut diff lock (blue + white) wire

-e brake cover is messed up...get new one or make something
-fix MAT sensor issue...waiting on Kevin or ANYONE to help me with this stupid firmware bs
-steering rack :frustrated:

I got some cool little parts covered with fabric today. I have a few more I will do tonight.
One thing that has been bothering me is the damn center console that goes around the e-brake. Its pretty dirty, and needs something done to it for sure.
I really don't think I want to cover it in something (pretty hard)...so I have been thinking about paint. Has anyone painted interior parts? I feel like it will come out crappy. Obviously something glossy is NOT what I am shooting for. I have the gray interior, so the color will have to be a really close match to that exact gray or black I suppose (which would obviously be easier).
Also, I need the plastic parts that cover the e-brake. Mine have been messed up since I bought the car.

They make that interior paint and it litteraly comes out looking exactly the way it is stock. I used some on my mk4 because as you know all mk4 interior plastic just peels away
I used SEM interiour paint and it comes in tons of colors i think i bought mine from eastwood...

Cool thats great info. I can definitely relate with the stupid MKIV stuff lol.
Ill take a look for it.
Right now my roommate is soldering up all the switches...time for dash reconstruction.
