Attended our monthly meeting last night, we had 6 Ur-quattros in the parking lot!
Richard and Dan were nice enough to grace us with their presence, Dan, how was the ride home? ;)
Not to mention the local guys, Frank, Lino, Mike and of course Craig.

Craig and I spent 2 hours beforehand trying to get the car to run properly.. no luck.. still running way too rich.
Richard followed me to the meeting and said he felt like he was in my tailpipe.. :(

This F$&*$(*ing car has Craig stomped, which doesn't happen often. We might be going VEMS sooner than I thought if I can't get it to run properly on Motronic.

All sensors check out fine, no vacuum leaks, O2 switching fine, FPR holds vacuum, the only thing we could not check is the fuel pressure.... :frustrated:

But she does look good, so I'll probably forgive her.

Cheers

Martin ,

Fuel pressure, and WOT switch still to test, then all grounds and such.

Great night for sure. BTW your car looks brilliant on the highway.

I'll figure this thing out.....trust me.

Cheers,

Craig

I got plenty of thumbs up... so she must be an eye catcher.. ;)

Let me know what you want me to check next and I'll get on it.

Cheers

Good to see you guys last night. Ride home was deadly. Ears were ringing for a while after we arrived home at about 1:30am. Your car looks stunning, and thanks for the ride! Get the VEMS in there already!

Now that is a phrase that is not said too often.

Martin-car looks stunning-who cares if she won't idle. It was a real nice treat to drive behind your car, even if it did make my eyes water, as I never see another Ur-Q in motion. So cool to see the flares from the back as you are driving.

Craig-car looks stunning and it sounds AMAZING. When you were on it before pulling into the parking lot it sounded as good as if you walked in the door only to hear your wife and her best friend climaxing and asking if you want to join in.

Mike-nice to meet you and you have some NICE toys. LOVE the RS2 and the Ur-q.

It was great seeing everyone again and meeting some new people-I always have a great time in Canada and there is just something about it in the summer.

Still no resolution to the poor running, given I have had solid 2 hours to work on it in the last 2 weeks, but, we have confirmed that.

- There are no vacuum leaks
- All sensors report good operation (tested as per VAG procedures)
- New FPR installed and I blew the return line back to the tank and it "felt" relatively restriction free.

The only thing I have not checked is actual fuel pressure at the rail and that is the next thing to be done.

That's the coolant outlet. The street version of the Sport manifold has the water manifold cast into it.
The rally varsion (like James B's car) has a seperate water manifold but same look on top.

Oh wow! I am not sure if I would like my intake manifold at 180 degree's constantly, but the one piece design sure is cool!!

That thing is cool. Can you take some pictures pointed into the plenum, and perhaps some pictures of the runners from the inside?

I like how all the inlets to the head are all round ~5/8ths holes instead of the goofy 7a manifold oring thingy

Nice intake Martin!

It sucks to hear that the driveability issue is tricky one. I've been burned by these sorts of problems before and thought, arrrhhh why didn't I see that earlier! It's always one little piece of data I overlooked while searching for something more common. I hope you find it soon. I'm interested to hear how that engine performs.

Well done on you inlet manifold Martin!!!!!
Now the race is it to find a throttle housing between us. They are available but 1400 Euro.

I had a quick play to see if anything else will fit, but everything so far is too small :(

Thanks,

I had a quick look and will most likely go with an adapter plate if I can't find anything bolt on.
Have you checked any of the Porsche throttle bodies?

Not yet, the other issue is that the throttle cam works in reverse to all the other audi throttle bodies I have looked at.

What do you run for an intake manifold/watermanifold gasket?

I have got a gasket on it's way to me Martin if you are struggling, I can sketch round it when it lands and send it over.

Or a scan if you have a scaner large enough. I can then have someone cut one for me.

Thanks for the offer!

Update:

Spent 5 hours last night at Craig's shop trying to figure out why Motronic was choosing to run 10-13%CO.... this is with all of the inputs functioning correctly. We even turned down fuel pressure to 3 bar with same results... It just refuses to run properly.

Threw VEMS in there for lough, without wideband, and base map and touching anything it was running 0.5% CO and MUCH MUCH better. At least it will not idle.

So we are still scratching our heads. But, looks like I am going with VEMS from now on.
Sad to say but Motronic beat us to submission.

Waiting for USB-serial cable so we can hook up to VEMS, good times ahead.

Cheers

Long shot but you might want to double check the vmap settings?

I would but it ran the same on stock computer with stock MAP sensor. doh!

Anyone want a Motronic with VMAP and 034 GT3071 chipset? ;)

Feeling is that even though we had 3 mafs to try all of them might have been faulty.
That is the only variable that changed between Motronic and VEMS as far as inputs.

Cheers
