Happy Thanksgiving, Chris! Just in case you didn't sit around with your rig mates devouring a feast. :)

I'm interested in seeing what you'll be doing with the suspension. Never heard of air cups, but it seems like a novel idea! What kind of compressor setup would you need to drive them?

Whoops! Didn't see this until just now. Happy belated Thanksgiving to you too! Thankfully we did get a feast at the rig. If the oil and gas company hadn't provided it, I probably would have protested, left the location, and never go back. It's a big slap in the face to work all of Thanksgiving and not even get fed! I was getting worried that they weren't going to do it, but they pulled through in the end :)

Anyway, here is a link to some air cups (these are the cheapest ones I've found). http://www.stanceparts.com/ You can buy the compressor with them and all for pretty cheap. The compressor and tank don't even need to be that great because these take a lot less air than bags. I'd just do coilovers like we normally do, but install these between the top hat and the spring. As for the rest of the suspension (I.E. spring rates, spring and strut lengths, and damping ratio) I'm not really sure yet. I'm leaning toward keeping spring rates close to what they are now (think H&R sports) as well as keeping the damping rates there, but with normal shock travel instead of "sport" shock travel. Then I can raise the car by about 2 inches from wherever I set the base level. I'd probably keep it about where it is now, but have the ability to go slightly higher than stock height for the bigger obstacles I encounter.

Chris, the Scandinavians use block heaters, but they are 220v AC powered. They do connect them to the cabin heater lines.
Very nice on -20C mornings and much better for your engine.

FWIW, I only plug in the car (using the factory block heater) if it's going to be below -15˚C/5˚F overnight. I use a timer, set for two hours before I plan to wake up. This is running 5w40.

Thanks guys. I just need to order one up and figure out exactly where to put it (somewhere in the heater core lines I guess). I have the zerostart one picked out to be the best option so far.

I finally got to make use of the snow tires last night. The car did inspire a lot of confidence out there. I tested the limits of adhesion a few times on my drive and didn't even realize I was on ice for a lot of it. Thanks to the PO for hooking me up with some quality winter tires and thanks to Audi for making a hell of a car!

I still need to fix my windshield wiper nozzles (they are new within about a year ago, but are clogged up already), that turbo coolant hose leak, and install a block heater. Other than that, I'm so proud of the car for how good it's been this year and I wouldn't rather be driving anything else out here. I really mean that!

RENNWGN has been tearing it up out here in the oilfield! Yesterday morning I went to a new rig (straight from another one I had been on for a few weeks straight) and when I arrived, I was greeted by the security guard who said, "Welcome to the mud pit." Boy was he right, the entire lease road is extremely steep and was covered in at least 2.5-3" of pure mud soup. It was almost as slick as driving on ice, no joke!

The road is downhill on the way into the location (this is rare), and the guys were like yeah, you made it in, but no way will you get out without the 'dozer to pull you up. Well, later in the day I had to go get groceries. Everyone was getting stuck on the road, but I just threw 'er in first gear, hit the diff lock, and went up that somebitch like it was nothing :D

In other news, I am still waiting for someone to get me a turbo coolant feed line. The leak is slow enough that I haven't filled it in over a month, but it's still something I want to do. Also, the temp gauge went out today for the first time since I bought the car. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but I figure it might be a good idea to replace both coolant temp sensors at this point. Also, I will get a new heater valve thing like the one that broke on Kevin's car. Why not right? I guess I should order a new crank breather setup too pretty soon. Maybe intake and tb boots too!

Also, it seems my winter tires weren't very useful this year. However, that gives me an excuse to start thinking about summer wheels to put the summer tires on so I don't have to take the car somewhere to have different tires fitted when the time comes. I think I want Boleros for the summer tires. :idunno:

It seems I haven't posted a picture in a while. This isn't the greatest picture of the car ever, but at least it's in it! And proof that we're still drilling in the good ole' USA. :flag: :guns:  :drive:  :P

I love making people eat their words about these cars! That's a great story!

Is the feed line the short one from the block, or the long one coming from the other side? I have a good short one from the block. The rubber was shot, but the metal line is in great shape. I can put a piece of silicone hose on it and send it your way if that's the one you need.

I've always thought the 200 was rather large, but don't she look like a cute little thing in that line up!

Good to hear it's been trudging through the muck. They really are tanks, especially when the going gets rough. I had a similar experience on the snow day we had here in K-town; it's always great to get the bewildered reactions from the passengers who insisted you couldn't make that hill you just effortlessly summited.

Also, I quite like the Bolero's. I say, go for it!

Thanks! Tim said he'd pull one for me, but if he doesn't get back to me I will definitely let you know. Love this community and all it's spare hard to find parts :)

I think that style of wheels is a good choice for a car that wont be sitting at a very low ride height. If I can manage to find the current Ronal R28s with a lip (like in 2Bennett's for used parts section) I would definitely consider those too. The search is on!

I hate boleros but that looks fantastic.

I think I hate them on C4s... Seems to work well on the harder-lined 200

This line made me smile ear-to-ear.
I know that feel. Nothing quite like a type 44.
Cool story.

Great story! Time for some super sports...

With your temp on your dash try to tap the plastic right on top of the temp gauge. I bet it wakes up. If it does clean up the instrument board.... Or tap it when you need it :P

Thanks guys :)

That was the first thing I tried haha. Didn't work so far. The whole board was re-flowed at one point I believe, but I know it still has a few quirks. Silly VDO.

Last April I wrote the following:

loxxrider wrote:I think I know which one I want though, the 6758. I'd say this is more than a year off though, if at all.

This week I made a deal on a used 6758 setup. Should be off of the current car by late March. Then getting it installed will just be a matter of finding some time off.

I will be receiving:

-6758 turbo (plain compressor housing, v-band, non-wg hotside 0.85 A/r??)
-Iroz downpipe
-K26/V-band adapter from manifold to turbo
-870 cc Deka injectors
-eBay cast RS2 exhaust manifold
-Oil lines (not sure if I get the water lines)

I already have FID 1200 cc injectors, so if someone wants to buy one or the other, let me know. Same goes for the exhaust manifold. I probably won't use it.

The biggest hurdle will be finding the time to get the downpipe mated up with the rest of my exhaust. It's not easy to find a place that can do a decent TIG weld with a lift in nowhere, PA.

Also, I am not sure if the eBay exhaust manifold will be worth the effort for me to install. I may either just run the stock manifold for a bit, or get a genuine RS2 evo manifold.

VEMS will go in the car as soon as Drew C is done with it. I think I will run the EFR at around 15psi for a while, especially if it is on the stock manifold. With another manifold, I will probably turn it up to 23 or so with conservative timing and a smoothly-ramped boost curve so as to limit det and related stress on the low end.

Maybe meth one day as e85 is not practical for this car.

OK, so there's the plan :) :drive:

Hope to have it done for Carlisle.

That's gonna be pretty sick. I was just talking with a friend at the gas station that's building a drag car. Says he can't go e85 because the closest retailer is in Ohio, around here anyway. Washer fluid does the trick tho :D
