haha yeah...they are on the agenda...just maybe pushed back slightly

The holset makes them just slightly out of reach for now. I'm kinda hoping to get a (paid) internship and maybe a second job this summer. That would allow me to do a bag setup and a half lol. The money racks up tho man, the bag setup alone will prob be like 3k...then I gotta do front brakes at the same time :/

I would love to, but I doubt I'll make it up this year...but maybe. If I have the bags on in time, then I'll definitely try and make it up. Otherwise, it will have to wait until the next year.

I strongly vote against bags.
I strongly vote for holsets.

:-D
My reasoning for bags is simple...
I would love to go around corners fast...I also love to be low...but I hate having my lowness dictate the way I can drive.
I like to be able to go offroad lol.
I also like the fact that my 200 is cushy and comfortable. If I wanted to go super duper fast around turns, I'd swap the motor into an older chassis car.
The bag setup I'm using should be capable of keeping up with a coil setup (so they say). I get to choose my ride height, and how harsh it is. Plus, the general lee is on basically stock suspension haha so I think if he can do it, then I can do it with bags.

You know i used to be TOTALLY against bags..TOTALLY against them.
BUTTT a friend of mine got them on his mk4 g1.8t golf which has a 28rs about 300whp and TONS of other mods including sway bars, poly bushings throughout, camber plates and everything, and it changed my mind completely about them. with his old koni coil overs the car handled beautifully (for a mk4 vw

)
With the bag setup he put in it handles JUST as well if not better. Adjusting the psi in the bags adjust height as well as spring rate so inside the cabin he can adjust the rates and change handling characteristics. Its NOT bouncy, does not ad a whole lot of weight and for daily driving if you want a car that looks disgusting dumped to the ground, you can do it with bags. "Drive low, park LOWER" is the saying santi was using and its right..
Marty if you live in manchester you have probably seen the kid im talking about with the bagged golf. Its black, has dark dark dark blue centered 18 inch wheels with polished lips and a HUGE front mount, his names Dustin.
Anyways MOAR H1C!!!!!! :bashtard:

Haha Santi is the shit. Im just keeping confidence in their ability to handle at least almost as nice as coils will. As long as they can do that, then I'm good to go.
Dont worry, H1C will be here within the next week (i hope) and Ill surely have some pics

Well I disconnected my rear diff turnoff thing.
Never knew how fun it could be in the rain :-D
the car gets sideways if i want, but as soon as I want to stop going sideways, it just pulls me back straight. :woowoo:

Had a little progress on the car today. All of my toggle switches have a purpose now lol...
one is for shift cut, another is launch control, then ignition, then diff lock switch thing
The main thing we did was make the shift cut work. The problem was that the only way we could have it wired up before was inverted. Its hooked up to the clutch switch. The clutch switch gets ground when the pedal is OUT though. We need the switch to give ground to the ecu when its in.
The easy way to do that is to go into megatune and switch the channel to "inverted"...however, all of the channels EXCEPT channel 7 which the shift cut is wired to has that. So we had to take a relay and make it "inverted" that way.
Next up was wiring the diff lock thing. When the switch is on, it will allow the car to turn the diff lock off above 15mph. When its off, the diff lock will work at any speed

Finally, we wired the power for the coils to a relay. Before it wasn't on a switched source...so thats not very good. We also put it on a toggle switch just as a little anti-theft feature. (the switches aren't labeled

)
The only problem is that when we went to start it, when its cranking, it doesn't give power to the coils lol...so it will crank and not fire...then as soon as I let go of the key, it will fire. I have to find a wire to tap into that is on even when the car is cranking, but is also switched.
Anyone know of one thats in the general dash area?Im pretty happy because now everything is right with the exception of the ignition thing, and the fact that the chip for the launch control is burned out in the ecu.
also, I just realized that 2B's coil kit isn't a bad price...I would be all over it if I wasn't set on bags.
I would like to have a set of sport quattro seats

, too bad that will NEVER happen. I'd like to have a roll bar (at least) and a pair of Corbeau's in the car though. I honestly just feel safer with a 4-pt. If I did do that, I'd make it as unobtrusive as possible and get it powdercoated in pearl white 8)

Lots of repairs underway...
For one, my passenger side window has been making crunching noises lately...lol
I guess that means my regulator is about to go out. I'll order parts from SJM as soon as I can. The window actually stopped working today for a second, so its definitely almost toast. Ill probably buy two just so I can do them both and know they are good to go for a long while.
Coil power issue above will be sorted out tuesday as long as I find the time.
I'm currently on the search for my AC problem. First thing to check will be the relay under the dash. Sucks that there are so many things that could cause the comp to not come on.
I tried the shift cut out today. Its soooo weird/hard to get used to, but its cool to have on a toggle so I can choose when I want to use it. It doesn't do anything until right around 3k RPMs, so its not too intrusive for regular driving, but it definitely can be at times. I have it set to 400ms right now. I could shift faster, but I don't really like banging gears anyway.
The final thing I will need to do to make this car perfect for the time being is to get a damn proper exhaust on it. It would be so refined otherwise. I'm going to go with a straight thru 3" borla out the back.

So since the reg is like $200 and the freakin relay is $80...lets take a vote.
OPTION 1:
Take the $1000 I'll be getting and put it towards relay, reg., exhaust, and tune and basically make the car perfection. Maybe put the leftover money into a welding class.
OR
OPTION 2:
Do the less responsible thing and throw the holset and everything on there and worry about the other things after that lol...this option will obviously cost me more in the long run.
Either way, Holset would probably be on the car by the end of the summer. Maybe with option A I could skip using an EBAY manifold and just make my own crappy log one.

Er, get a good used regulator and take the gearbox apart, and grease it up. Grease the cables, etc. The only reason they fail is from lack of grease (not a sealed system, gets old and gunky).
Also, I've seen new regulators for $115-150 depending on which window it is (rear is cheaper). Also, check other sources for the relay. Not saying that you shouldn't buy from Scott, but there is at least one other enthusiast with very good pricing (
www.foreignautomotiveparts.com).

Cool, thanks for that info. I'll be looking into that asap.
For the record, its the front right window that is having the problem.

That was the only one to fail on my 5kq. They are the same for all T44's from 1984-1994 AFAIK.

so fap99 has PIMAX brand reg at like $158...SJM has that for $188.
However, SJM also has an "OE TYPE" regulator for $145.
Does OE TYPE usually mean its OEM, or does that mean its a replica type thing?
I just want the best quality one I can get so I dont have to replace another one.
also, I found a used one on audifans for $50...but then I risk getting one that will stop working in a year or two, which I dont want.
**Edit** also saw that derek has/had the reg I need...this may work out much better than I thought.
and one more thing.
I was just talking to my buddy the other day when we were in my car and i was like man these things go thru window regs like crazy...I've been lucky with mine so far. I hope it lasts a little while longer.
Today, it ****ing broke lol.

Nothing wrong with used if it was working well when removed and you clean and re-grease it.

EDIT See 2 posts down by me...
In the process of tracking down why my AC clutch isn't kicking in.
I have the right relay tracked down finally (295 under the knee panel)
Now I just need to know what terminals to jump to see if the clutch will come on...I have the relay apart but that thing is complicated lol
please let me know if you have any info on what to jump. I'm pretty lost.
Our best educated conclusion right now is 30 and 87
also now that I have thought about it a little, jumping this connection wont tell me at all if its because of the relay since it gets signals from the low pressure switch, etc. and if those aren't working, then this isn't going to work. UGH I need a bentley so bad. Its going on the list of things to buy for sure.

Just went outside and tried a few things.
I got the comp running by jumping the two wires for the low pressure switch.
So that narrows it down to having too little R134 (it was converted), or a bad low pressure switch.
I'm going to go with low 134 level. So I can buy a can and then charge it. Only question is, where do I charge it from?

There's a port on the compressor you can use, I can't remember exactly where. It's on the low side. Newer Audis get charged on the high-side and as such cannot be serviced by people w/out the special equipment...

Got the Holset...

its actually not quite what I expected. I knew the exhaust housing was going to be big. This thing is huge though lol. Its definitely bigger than most 35r's I've seen.
The compressor housing is really small though! Its definitely about 28rs looking as far as outside dimensions are concerned. The wheel is probably a good bit bigger than a 28 though.
It should be very interesting to see how this performs. Someone claimed to get full boost by 3k on one. Curious to see if it can make 400whp lol.
