Well that's a fair point. But this year I will be, and I'm currently making the EFI complete standalone jump, so I'll be able to join the party. I was wondering, do you (Chris and Nick) have laptops with serial ports? What model if so? I CAN get an adapter, but I'd rather have a dedicated laptop with a serial port for my car.

Mine does not have a serial port. I bought a USB to serial cable from radio shack. The cheap ass one didn't work for me.

The generic ones work fine, you just have to buy one with a Prolific PL2303 chip.

That is very good news. Thanks, Ed. I'll have to get in touch with you after I get my car going and I can go visit my dad in Pittsburgh. Also, my sister is a freshman at Pitt this year so I'll be out there to visit probably. Also, enough of this thread hacking! Chris! Updates!

My late build '90 200TQA also has the valve with the sensor. I can't remember now if I got the valve from AutoHausAZ or 034 - it broke the first day I got the car back to AZ. Autohaus doesn't have it now . . .

yodasfro wrote:Well for one it does not have the sensor, 2 it's shorter and would require the smaller diameter hoses from a 20v to work properly. Pics for reference.

Since I don't have my bilsteins to play with at the moment, does anyone know if they mount via the retaining nut exclusively or are they supported at the bottom of the strut housing? I am having my bilsteins shortened and need to know if I need to get a spacer made or not since I don't plan to shorten the housings right this minute.

IIRC, you'll need a spacer. The strut sits on the bottom of the housing and the gland nut just holds it in place - I believe the strut even protrudes from the top of the housing by a 1/8" or so while in contact with the bottom of the housing.

lol I know Kuma, I'll post that up asap. I haven't tried the valve yet cuz I can't start it yet.

Thanks Casey, I thought so. Spacer is easy to make.

I'm cutting the struts and they rest on the bottom of the strut housing. If I cut and re-welded the strut housings too, it would be fine, but I'm not doing that at the moment just because I don't have enough time. Sooo that means I have to get a spacer I can drop down in the strut housing for the shorter struts to sit on. I think so at least. Maybe they can just sit in there deeper? I dunno, I haven't looked at it enough yet.

if they just sit deeper in the housing, the body of the strut won't be secure and will knock up and down with the 1.5" that you're removing. The gland nut is supposed to make contact with the strut body to hold it firmly to the bottom of the housing.

OK thanks for confirming that Casey, thats pretty much what I thought. I can't wait to get the housings shortened too :)
